There are a lot of country songs about Georgia. Something about the state seems to inspire musicians. Maybe it's the lush greenery and stunning architecture, or perhaps it's Georgia's long history that speaks to these singers. These songs are often about the state of Georgia itself, but they may also be about specific locales within the state, including the capital city of Atlanta.

One thing stands out about country songs about GA. Georgia may not have quite as many country tunes written about it as other states do, but the ones that are are huge hits. Many remain favorites today. Just consider the Charlie Daniels Band’s “Devil Went Down to Georgia,” where a young fiddle player takes on Satan himself in a fiddlin’ duel, and “Georgia on My Mind,” an instant classic no matter the singer. And no one would argue that Reba McIntire’s version of “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia” is anything but stellar.

Not surprisingly, you’ll find songs with lyrics and titles that mention the things that make Georgia famous. Peaches, watermelons and even “dawgs” make appearances here. Alan Jackson has fun on the Chattahoochee, and Alison Krauss sings that there’s “no need to worry…on my way back to Georgia.”

Tap your toes to these songs, and be sure to vote for your favorites! You can also add any notable country Georgia songs that are missing.
