Succession star Matthew Macfadyen will follow up the final season of the hit series with Marvel's Deadpool 3.

Macfadyen, who plays Tom on the HBO series, will be joining Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Deadpool's third outing, alongside newcomer Emma Corrin as the villain.

Deadline reports that there's no word on who Macfadyen will be playing in Deadpool 3, but he does have plenty of history playing shifty characters.

Aside from playing Tom Wambsgans on Succession, Macfadyen also recently had the lead role on ITV1's Stonehouse, playing the real Labour politician who infamously tried to fake his own death. The actor also played the Who Wants to be a Millionaire scandal's Major Charles Ingram on the three-part series Quiz.

The third Deadpool movie will be the first inside the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is set to pair up Jackman's Wolverine with the Merc with the Mouth for the first time since the X-Men Origins film (aside from past cameos).

During a recent appearance on The Empire Film Podcast, Jackman confirmed that the two superheroes will be at each other's throats throughout the film.

"How do I categorise it? Ten being really close, zero being the reality — we're zero, we're opposites, [they] hate each other," he explained.

"I'm just talking from my perspective, [Logan's] frustrated by him – [he] wants to be a million miles away from him or wants to punch him in the head."

Jackman then quipped: "Unfortunately, he can't be a million miles away from him in this movie, so I'm probably going to punch him in the head a lot."

Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are streaming on Disney+, and also available on digital download, DVD and Blu-ray. Deadpool 3, starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, has a release date of September 6, 2024.
