Dartford Grammar School

News for the week ending 19th April, 2024

On Thursday this week, Year 12 had their Futures Forum – we welcomed back students who left DGS last year who came in to talk to Year 12 about their first year or two at university: the make up of their courses, and their experience of university life, employment or gap years.   This is an important first step as Year 12 begin to think about their future after the sixth form (and they will be given much advice by our Futures Advisors in school over the coming months.)

We were also joined by students from the College Saint Veronique, our partner school in Liege, who were welcomed by our Year 10 French students on Wednesday to spend time in the school.

Over Easter, alongside rather more dull maintenance work on the school roof, we completed the building work on our new recording studio.  Thanks to the considerable support of parents and alumni, and a massive effort by our students (with their fundraising concert, and non-uniform day), we have managed to purchase much of the equipment for this: and students have been making considerable use of this already this week!  Particular thanks must go to the Parents’ Association who kicked off our fundraising (as they do with so many of these projects in school), and also to the advice given by a number of parents on both fundraising and the studio itself.   Suffice to say, our students are very grateful – both established musicians and those interested in sound engineering.
