      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Jessica Alba does a solid job as a post-apocalyptic heroine in Dark Angel, a sleek - if somewhat predictable -- cyberpunk show.

Mike P This always seemed like the poor man's version of Alias to me. Not quite as smart or stylish...A little more empty headed. Also hearing in interviews that star Jessica Alba bullied co-star Jensen Ackles on set all the time; exerting that kind of abusive prototypical Hollywood type toxic environment; doesn't make me like the show more... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/24 Full Review Audience Member I loved the series from the first moment I saw the pilot! It has fast paced action and a great plot, the actors are a good fit for their characters, Jessica Alba is great as sassy mutant Max, bike courier by day and thief by night. The post apocalyptic scenario is now maybe even more contemporary than ever, society is changing and people are questioning science ethics. The strong female lead is what makes it one of my favorite series of all times, I really would love to see a reboot! Joyce Millman Salon.com But the most disappointing thing about Dark Angel is that, in comparison to the richly subtextual Aliens and The Terminator, it's woefully lacking in imagination and soul. Sep 4, 2019 Full Review Caryn James New York Times It is easy to define Dark Angel by naming the films and series it resembles: part Blade Runner, part Xena, Warrior Princess with a huge dose of The X-Files. But like some genetic television experiment it emerges with a dynamic identity of its own. Sep 4, 2019 Full Review Michael Sauter Entertainment Weekly The show was ambitiously conceived and only occasionally did it realize its potential. Rated: B+ Sep 4, 2019 Full Review David Zurawik Baltimore Sun James Cameron has created not only a drama that speaks to a younger generation, but also a character who suggests a new concept of ethnicity for television, transcending old parameters of black and white. Sep 5, 2019 Full Review Tom Jicha South Florida Sun-Sentinel The creative team is as good as it gets and the heroine is a star waiting to explode. Sep 4, 2019 Full Review Scott D. Pierce Deseret News (Salt Lake City) In large part, the success of Dark Angel is riding on [Jessica] Alba's shoulders -- and they're just not strong enough. Sep 4, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
