Audiences love a good whodunit, as the mystery presents a challenge for viewers to unravel throughout a film. Director Rian Johnson proved his ability in the genre in 2019, with Knives Out quickly making a splash in theaters. The film was praised for its excellent performances from an ensemble cast, tight writing, and intricate details spread throughout the 2-hour runtime.

Johnson is looking to repeat his success with Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, a follow-up to the 2019 film. Daniel Craig returns as Benoit Blanc in the sequel, the famed southern detective who stole the show in the first movie. Now, Blanc is traveling to Greece to solve another case, though everything is not as it seems. Fans should expect plenty of easter eggs and hidden details in the film, and Craig claims the best way to watch Glass Onion is with a second viewing. The actor recently appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, discussing the movie and Johnson's philosophy toward the successful mystery franchise.

"It's incredibly generous, and I mean that's Ryan, that's his character, but it bears watching again. I mean I know everybody comes on this show and says, 'Watch it twice' but it really does. If you watch it again, he lays all this groundwork, he puts in all of these easter eggs, all of these things, and every single one of them pays off so it's worth a second look."

Fans will get a chance to see Glass Onion in theaters for a special sneak preview, beginning on Nov. 23, premiering for one week. Then, a month later, on Dec. 23, Glass Onion will make its way to Netflix, where it will begin its streaming run. Rian Johnson is sure to present audiences with another great mystery, whether it's seen in the theater, at home, or both.

Glass Onion Could Surpass the First Knives Out Film

Glass Onion has the potential to surpass Knives Out in nearly every way. Of course, the sequel likely won't break any box office records set by its predecessor, as it's only in theaters for a week. However, the audience reception to Glass Onion could be even better than what came before it.

Like Knives Out, the upcoming sequel boasts a stellar cast. Dave Bautista, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr., Madelyn Cline, and more will star alongside Daniel Craig in the project. MovieWeb caught an early screening of Glass Onion at the Toronto International Film Festival, saying the film utilizes "everything that made Knives Out a hit" while "Glass Onion essentially turns it up a notch."

Fans can see how Glass Onion fares against its predecessor when the film arrives in theaters on Nov. 23 before a global release on Netflix on Dec. 23.
