Spouse Trap is the prequel to the Madeline Dawkins Mystery Series.
Full of unexpected twists, a must-read for fans of Ruth Ware, Karin Slaughter, and Mary Stone.
When PI Madeline Delaney is summoned to Monte Verde―the serene assisted living complex where her father now resides―she’s concerned Mack’s ideal setup is about to come to an end. Instead, the facility director enlists MDPI’s help in resolving a very troubling situation.
Someone is sending poison pen letters to the residents at Monte Verde, and the accusations have already driven one elderly woman to take her own life. And new victims keep coming forward...
Back at the office, Jack Waverly―the attorney next door―has a client going through a very nasty divorce. Janelle Marsby’s estranged husband has launched a particularly ugly intimidation offensive designed to wear her down. The tactics Roy’s using to coerce Janelle into giving up her share of their community property assets are ruthless and criminal. Their mission is to keep Janelle safe while they dig up all of Roy’s shady dealings.
Meanwhile, Glen Langford enlists Mike’s help in finding his 18 year old daughter who ran off with a cult five months earlier. His own searches led him through five states before his last tip led him to Santa Barbara. His biggest break came from a rancher who took Alison in after he ran the cult off his land, only to learn that she had been physically, sexually and psychologically abused by the leader of the cult.
Working against the clock, the MDPI team jump into all three cases, determined to resolve them before time runs out.

While sneaking away from a 5th anniversary party Madeline’s Current Affairs orchestrated for Tara and Troy Richardson, she receives an appeal from Russell Barnett. The shifty P.I. needs their help tracking down Dylan Latham, the son of the P.I. Madeline hired during the implosion of her first marriage. Russell knows Madeline can’t turn him down because of her misplaced guilt over Burt Latham’s demise while trying to save her from a monster.
A frantic call from Troy Richardson at quarter to six the following morning wakes Madeline out of a troubled sleep. Tara is nowhere to be found.
This second missing person case quickly turns into a kidnapping for ransom, something the MDPI team doesn’t feel comfortable handling alone. But when they learn all local law enforcement is involved in a multi-agency operation, they have no choice but to stick with it.
Meanwhile, their search for Dylan leads them to the home of wealthy Cat Kingman, an eccentric widow in her late-70s. The case quickly turns into a search for two twenty-somethings. As they start wading through the past for clues to their disappearance, they uncover startling truths that could set off reverberations around the world.
Houses of Deception is the 6th book in the Madeline Dawkins Mystery Series.

The MDPI team is tasked with unraveling three new cases, all of them with dire consequences if Madeline, Mike and Samir can’t resolve the mysteries.
A Florida man desperate to save his niece’s life seeks MDPI’s help in locating a nephew he hasn’t seen in five years—a drifter who was presumed dead after a tragic boating accident took the lives of his two friends. A photo Web Burnhart found online proves Daniel is alive and well, and was in Santa Barbara after his friends succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning off the coast of San Diego. As Web’s niece slips closer to death each day, Daniel has become her last hope for receiving a compatible kidney.
Award-winning composer Evan Picard is referred to MDPI when he suspects his much-younger wife may be seeking attention elsewhere whenever work takes him down to Los Angeles. Madeline is able to put his suspicions to rest after she witnesses a “communication” between Bella and her deceased sister, only to have the case take off in a completely different and disturbing direction.
Daphne Pillsbury tracks Mike down, hoping he will be the key to solving a mystery that could give her the peace of mind she needs, while quite possibly blowing his blissful marriage to smithereens.

Adding to Madeline’s already overflowing plate, the D.A. informs her that Rick Yeoman―one of the men who abducted her three years earlier―has been released from prison after cutting a deal with the Feds. Besides fearing reprisals from the man she helped to convict, his parole also triggers the reappearance of soulless Lionel Usherwood, lured out of his hideaway by the call of revenge. When Yeoman’s body surfaces in Lake Cachuma, Usherwood moves on to the next target: Madeline.
A High Price to Pay is the second novel in the Madeline Dawkins Mystery series.

Santa Barbara D.A. Conrad Adams makes a personal appeal to MDPI on behalf of Natalie Sheckle, hoping Madeline and Mike can determine whether her husband died by his own hand, or if someone has stitched him up for his own murder.
Never ones to shy away from longshots or lost causes, the duo dives straight into two nearly hopeless cases. Now it’s up to them to figure out what secrets these two husbands have taken to their graves.
The Trouble With Paradise is the fourth installment in the Madeline Dawkins series.
It took nine years from the onset of the symptoms to learn the name of her nemesis. Because the diagnosis was so long in coming, she now had late-stage Lyme, which is next to impossible to cure. Her only hope at that point was going the "alternative" route, which required leaving normal and taking a huge leap of faith, resorting to methods that are part new-age, part medieval. She would soon learn getting the correct diagnosis was only half the battle.
Throughout her struggles, three things saved her from complete despair: an overabundance of willpower, an appreciation of the absurd, and writing. Her experiences during that time make for a candid, comic and sometimes harrowing look at what she endured at the hands of medical professionals.
What she got for her trouble was a craft that has allowed her to channel her overactive imagination into writing books, which is now her sole occupation—besides fighting Lyme. Though there are moments of despair, Once Upon a Lyme is ultimately about triumph of the spirit over disease, the courage to keep fighting, and the sense of humor necessary to prevail against adversity.

Appearances can be deceiving. And in Southern California, where the sun shines almost every day and make-believe has its own industry, it’s hard to tell what is real and what is merely illusion.
Two inquiries come to MDPI on the same day that seem like fairly straight-forward missing person cases. But it doesn’t take long to discover there’s nothing ordinary about the disappearance of two beautiful sisters from Minnesota and an estranged heiress who has never touched her eight-figure fortune.
While Madeline’s partner, Mike Delaney, heads down to Los Angeles to search for his cousin’s vanished girlfriend and her sister, Madeline heads to San Luis Obispo in hopes of picking up a twelve-year-old trail at a Catholic boarding school.
Their separate pursuits lead them into a world where a frightening reality hides behind a glossy veneer. With several lives hanging in the balance, Mike and Madeline are faced with daunting odds and ruthless criminals who will kill to keep what they have taken.
“Girl Trap” is the third book in the Madeline Dawkins series.
A TRUE STORY OF FORGIVENESS AND HEALING.
As fiercely independent Ruth struggles to stay self-reliant at the age of 86, each day brings her closer to an event that will alter her life forever. While her author daughter shifts through Ruth’s possessions prior to her move into a skilled nursing facility, she discovers a previously unseen photo from 1949 and realizes how little she knows of her mother’s life.
As Alzheimer’s continues to warp Ruth’s once sharp mind, she can no longer shed any light on the past. Yearning to know who her mother was as a person in her own right, the author painstakingly reconstructs Ruth’s life from photos, letters, public records and firsthand memories.
What emerges is a portrait of a bright, beautiful woman who is propelled through decades of broken promises and heartache, bouncing from one ill-fated relationship to the next, but always staying strong, always surviving. Through a timeline going back sixty years, the author gleans a much better understanding of the woman she had known only as Mom.
"SOUL-BEARING AND HEART-WARMING."

"A CANDID, CLOSE TO THE BONE NARRATIVE"
After first dismissing the notion as absurd, Roxanne boldly takes the plunge into the character-ridden world of real estate. What she discovers as she wades into shark-infested waters is a talent for negotiating and problem-solving, and an inner strength she didn't know she possessed--not to mention a pool of eligible bachelors.
Armed with an acerbic wit, her best friend Andrea's unwavering support, and the willpower to make a better life for herself and her son, Roxanne forges ahead. The unintended consequences of romantic encounters thrill Andrea to no end, but keep Roxanne's head spinning. Can she fall in love, keep her dignity and still become successful?Enjoy the fun while she finds out!
Frank’s Coffee Shop on Manhattan’s Lower East Side becomes a safe haven for Tobias Jordan, a paparazzi-phobic 90s rock star, drawn to the obscurity of the dingy hole-in-the-wall, and Philip Glessner, a disgraced architect, who ducks inside to elude a posse of blood-thirsty reporters. What keeps both coming back is their waitress, Priscilla Vanderpool, who becomes an improbable paragon of virtue to the shell-shocked Philip, and an unwitting muse to gifted and jaded Tobias. But neither man sees her as she really is: a philosophical hard-luck case with a quick wit and a twenty-year habit of penning insightful and haunting lyrics that no one has ever heard.
Alligators in the Trees—a line from one of Priscilla's songs—symbolizes the bugaboos that lurk in the minds of all three characters: in Tobias, the fear he's lost his talent, and that his string of model-mistresses will be the downfall of his soul; in Philip's guilt-ridden conscience as he struggles with the collapse of his most touted building and the prospect of losing custody of his daughter if he doesn't meet his estranged wife's demands; in Priscilla, the fear of actually making a decision about her life instead of always taking the path of least resistance. Fate intervenes and forces all three to act on their true desires.
"Hamilton's novel is a fun romp for readers drawn to character-driven fiction that offers lessons about life and love." ~ Kirkus Reviews
