This was a pleasant surprise!
Imagine Cruel & Unusual as a mash-up of Twilight Zone and Groundhog Day. This is honestly borderline 4-stars for me.
It may not be the best thing ever, but it's very interesting and engaging throughout. I really appreciated the unique twist on "eternal damnation" and the way that this movie was executed overall.
I strongly advise going in blind like I did with as little expectations as possible.
(I think this is the type of material that would've been a superb 4-6 episode mini series.)
This was a surprise! I haven’t even heard about it nor hear anyone discuss it. I mean it’s not groundbreaking or changes cinema but it was really good. To me it showed it doesn’t matter what you’ve done in life that’s drowned you in regret. How far gone you think you are. There is always a way back. Maybe not the way you want but one that leads you away from selfishness and into acceptance.
I hope more people see it in the future and get whatever message it delivers. If you would love to give it a shot, it’s on tubi for free. I couldn’t recommend it enough.
Edgar (David Richmond-Peck) has just killed his wife Maylon (Bernadette Saquibal). Following this murder he finds himself in a mysterious institution where he is forced to relive her death for eternity.
This is a great little indie thriller, a real discovery. It's just so much fun, the film has this fantastic premise and writer/director Merlin Dervisevic knows exactly what to do with it. I want to share everything that happens in the film, but that would spoil it, just trust me and watch it.
It's very low budget, but please don't let that put you off, it's very well played by the entire cast, and hardly anyone puts a foot wrong.
I hope that director Merlin Dervisevic goes on to make more films as on the strength of this, I predict very big things for him as his film was a real pleasure to watch. Seek it out.
watched this back when it was on netflix years ago and i remember really liking it but then somewhere along the way completely forgot it existed until tubi came in clutch 😩 the poster is so bad but please give this a chance, it’s an underrated one!
This movie was real entertaining.
Hardly the best thing I've seen all week, but the premise was really cool and executed just about as well. Really nothing to complain about here, other than that there wasn't a whole lot to gush over either.
Sort of a neat mash-up of the better parts of "Groundhog Day", "Edge of Tomorrow", the later bits of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and just a dash of "The Terminator", which is no detraction from the movie other than maybe that sort of idea is hardly unique. But what is these days?
I'd suggest checking it out.
Ngl this one really got me. My friend recommended it to me because it was on Tubi and watched it during my break from studying. I honestly loved it. This movie had me crying at the end and appreciate anything that gives me a physical emotional reaction. I understands that this movie might not be for everyone. Personally I really liked the aspect of this movie that deviated from time crimes.
Much better than I thought it would be but the main character did not deserve any kind of redemption arc or even slightly improved ending.
This was fantastic. I really like what they did with the premise. It was genuinely interesting and kept me guessing. Highly recommended.
Fitting title for a film filled with obnoxious plot holes and continuity errors. Interesting enough, it’s easy to stick with this fairly short film the whole way through. Unfortunately, it feels like director/writer Dervisevic may have lost motivation to stick with it somewhere along the way. I can see a lot of people really enjoying this, it just wasn’t for me.
Twisty, inventive, well-acted, and well-shot. For those looking to fill their void of low budget sci-fi, look no further than this gem.
