Rymanów-Zdrój is a health resort in the Subcarpathian region of Poland, particularly geared towards welcoming young visitors. This quiet town in the Tabor river valley is surrounded by a rich network of paths and trails amidst the green Rymanów Hills.
Rymanów-Zdrój Health Resort: History and Interesting Facts
The history of the health resort dates back to the end of the 19th century and is associated with the family of Anna and Stanisław Potocki. Their son reportedly discovered the first healing spring while walking with his mother in the surrounding forests. It was Countess Anna who convinced her husband to establish a health resort here and is considered its founder.
From the beginning of its existence, in the 19th century, the health resort organized special sanatorium treatments for children. In the early 20th century, it was often visited by artists from the Young Poland movement: Stanisław Wyspiański, Włodzimierz Tetmajer, and Walery Eliasz Radzikowski.
At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, beautiful resort buildings were constructed, including beautiful wooden villas. Some of them, like Villa Maria (formerly Villa under the Mother of God), have survived to this day. Some, neglected by their owners, are unfortunately deteriorating. For example, the late 19th-century Villa "Leliwa", where S. Wyspiański stayed. He reportedly painted beautiful sunflowers on the wall of his room. Unfortunately, the fresco was painted over when a hospital for soldiers was set up in the villa during World War I.
