Barcelona’s strong start to the 2022/23 La Liga season after the opening day stumble continues as they got the better of Sevilla in their latest game on Saturday night.

First-half goals from new signings Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski put the Catalans in the driving seat. And Eric Garcia showed up to make it 3-0 early in the second half to secure a crucial victory away from home for the Blaugrana.

The result ensures that they are within touching distance of arch-rivals Real Madrid, who have made a 100% start to the season and sit atop the standings.

The win away at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium meant that Xavi’s Barcelona are still unbeaten on the road in La Liga, winning 11 and drawing five of their 16 fixtures away from Camp Nou.

The victory also meant that for the first time since 2019, Barcelona had won three games in a row with a 3+ goal margin. Interestingly, they picked up wins over Sevilla, Real Valladolid and a Basque team (Eibar instead of Real Sociedad) during that run as well.

The occasion also marked Jules Kounde’s return to Sevilla for the first time after he left the club for Barcelona this past summer. And the Frenchman made it a night to remember.

On Saturday, Kounde assisted two goals in the same La Liga match for the first time in his 97 appearances. In the process, he became the first player to assist twice in his first league away game for Barcelona in the 21st century.

Meanwhile, Lewandowski continued his strong start to life in La Liga as he once again found the back of the net for Barcelona.

It means that the Poland captain has scored five goals in four games in La Liga, becoming only the third player to score five or more goals in his first four games in the competition in the 21st century after Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009 (5) and Radamel Falcao in 2011 (5).

Gavi enjoyed a stunning game against Sevilla. The 18-year-old has been going from strength to strength since breaking into the first-team setup last year.

On Sunday, Gavi started his 40th game for Barcelona in all competitions. At 18 years and 29 days, he became the youngest player in the club’s history to reach that milestone.
