The Prince Constantine of Bavaria (German:) (August 15, 1920 - July 30, 1969) was a member of the Royal House Bavarian of Wittelsbach , journalist, author and politician. His full name was Constantino Leopoldo Luis Adalberto Jorge Tadeo José Pedro Juan Antonio Francisco de Asís Asunción y de Todos los Santos Prince of Bavaria.
Childhood and youth
Constantine was born in Munich , Bavaria . He was the eldest son of Prince Adalbert of Bavaria and his wife Countess Augusta von Seefried auf Buttenheim. Grandson of the Infanta María de la Paz de Borbón and great-grandson of Queen Isabel II of Spain .
In 1939, like most young German men his age, the prince was drafted into the army. Even so, his career in the German army was short. In 1941, Prince Constantine was removed from all combat duties in the wake of the so-called Prinzenerlass and a year later he began studying law at the University of Freiburg in Freiburg im Breisgau . After graduation in 1944, he worked at the Karlsruhe Regional High Court , but was arrested, like most of his relatives, after the failed attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler and was imprisoned for the remainder of World War II .
After the Second World War
After the war, Prince Constantine began working as a journalist for the Neu Revue, the magazine of the Süddeutsche Zeitung , and later for the German popular magazine Bunte . Furthermore, in 1958 he published a biography of Pope Pius XII entitled Der Papst. Three years later he wrote a historical reference book Ohne Macht und Herrlichkeit . He also became a member of the Bavarian Christian Social Union , one of the largest political parties in Bavaria, and was elected to the Bavarian state parliament in 1962 and in 1965 to the Bundestag .
Marriage
On August 26, 1942, Prince Constantine married Princess Maria Adelgunda of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, daughter of Prince Frederick of von Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen and Princess Margaret Carola of Saxony . The wedding at Sigmaringen was described as "the greatest societal event during the war" (ie World War II ).
The couple had two children, but the marriage ended in divorce on July 14, 1948 and was annulled on March 24, 1950.
- Prince Leopoldo Ruperto Luis Adalberto Fernando Federico María y de Todos los Santos de Baviera (June 21, 1943). He married Ursula Mohlenkamp on October 21, 1977. They have four children and six grandchildren.
- Prince Adalberto Federico Juan María Juan María of All Saints of Bavaria (December 27, 1944). He married Marion Malkowski on May 9, 1978 and they divorced on November 11, 1983. He remarried Sandra Burghardt on February 21, 1986. They have two children.
On August 14, 1953, Prince Constantine married Countess Helena ( Hella ) von Khevenhüller-Metsch, daughter of Count Franz de Khevenhüller-Metsch and Princess Anna of Fürstenberg. The civil ceremony took place at Sankt Georgen am Längsee in Carinthia and the religious wedding a day later at Hohenosterwitz. The couple had a daughter:

Princess Isabel Helena Anna Augusta María de la Paz Ludovica-Fernanda de Todos los Santos de Baviera (July 20, 1954). She married Count Alfredo Hoyos on May 30, 1976. They have two children and five grandchildren:

Death
Prince Constantine of Bavaria was killed on July 30, 1969 in a plane crash near Hechingen , Baden-Württemberg , and was buried in the cemetery of the Andechs Monastery in Bavaria.
