Daniel Craig's foul-mouthed James Bond Comic Relief sketch with Catherine Tate's Nan

COMIC RELIEF 2021 showed Daniel Craig's James Bond face his most terrifying challenge ever - Catherine Tate's Nan. The grumpy OAP wastes no time ridiculing the spy's greatest catchphrase and habits before he loses his cool and turns the air blue himself with an outrageous use of the f-word.

Comic Relief: Daniel Craig appears in James Bond sketch

When you think of Craig's iconic turn as James Bond, hilarity is not what comes to mind. He has played the role with intense dedication but, perhaps, without the lighter touch of Roger Moore or Pierce Brosnan. However, the actor threw himself into a very special sketch for Comic Relief Red Nose Day. Scroll down for a first look at the secret agent finally meeting his match.

Comic Relief persuaded the 53-year-old star to film one last project as 007, although it will still be months before fans finally get to see his swansong in the role on the big screen.

No Time To Die finished filming over a year ago but has been repeatedly pushed back in the schedules due to the closure of cinemas during the pandemic. Bond 25 currently has a September 30 release date in the UK and October 8 in the US.

In the meantime, the sketch will show James Bond faced with Catherine Tate's legendary foul-mouthed Nan, which might just be the toughest moment of his entire hair-raising and death-defying career. It's certainly a far cry from his current entanglement on-screen with Lea Seydoux's Madeleine Swann.

In the Comic Relied skit, Nan gives 007 a dressing down on a video call while she is working as a cleaner at the Secret Intelligence Service's HQ.

Bond pops up on the screen for a security briefing with his boss M, only to find the cantankerous OAP glaring at him in her own truly terrifying way.

When she rudely asks him who he is and he replies in the time-honored fashion, Nan witheringly asks why he is "saying his name backward." She tells him, "Make up your mind, son."

A moment later she is mocking his famous choice of tipple, blaming that for his unmarried status.

Nan says: "A lot of women have a problem with a man like you sipping on the cocktails."

And then she implies she'd like him to use his Licence To Kill to rid her of a pesky neighbour: "Be a good boy, see to her."

The fun's still not over as she suddenly cackles, spins in her chair and reveals a classic Bond villain white cat on her lap.

Nan says: "I've got a bus pass and license to watch the BBC and I've finally caught up with you."

She tells him it's time to pay for his terrible carbon footprint, what with all those cars and helicopters. "Haven't you heard of global warming? And those gadgets ain't cheap... You're a menace to society."

After she unleashes a withering string of insults, Craig drops teh suave act and fires back with Nan's classic line: "What a f***ing liberty!"

However hilarious this turns out to be, it will be tough to beat Craig's most notorious comedy moment as the straight-laced and stoney-faced spy.

Not even Nan can match up to the extraordinary sight of seeing Bond and Queen Elizabeth parachuting through the London skies.

That iconic scene, of course, was part of the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games. Craig, as always, played it admirably straight as he escorted Her Majesty herself from Buckingham Palace to the waiting helicopter.

As extraordinary as it all was, according to The Queen's dresser Angela Kelly, she only had one condition when the idea was first proposed.

The Queen said: "Of course I must say something. After all, he is coming to rescue me."

In the short film, when Bond enters the royal chambers she turns and says "Good evening Mr Bond."

Up until that point, the millions of shocked viewers watching the Opening Ceremony around the world still expected that the monarch would be played by an impersonator. The big reveal that it was actually Her Majesty herself made TV history.

Even so, there was no possible way that The Queen would be able to take part in the second great shock of the sketch, and a stuntman in a dress and a wig jumped out of the helicopter to glide down towards the Olympic Stadium at Stratford.

Tate, herself, has spoken of her excitement creating the sketch with the Bond icon.

She said: "Nan had a right old time meeting Bond. What a smashing fella!

"As ever, it was great fun filming this Comic Relief sketch. Huge thanks to Daniell Craig and all the Bond team for being such great sports. I hope it raises a lot of money on the night."
