On this collection that picks up from where "Shout! the Complete Decca Recordings" leaves off, you get hits starting with "The Boat That I Row", "I'm a Tiger" and "Boom Bang a Bang" (my favourite). my other favourites here include "Boy" and "Let's Pretend". this CD reaches it's peak when it goes onto "To Sur with Love", the song for which she is best remembered. here, we get cover versions including "Day Tripper" (Beatles), "Gime Some Lovin'" (Dave Spencre Group) and "Mighty Quin", a song written by Bob Dylan, and later on a hit for Manfrid Man. if you are delving into Lulu's catalog, I erge you not to be disappointed if the material on "Shout!: the Complete Decca Recordings" doesn't hold upto the material here. Lulu sucked, but this collection proves that she matured when she left Decca to record for EMI. please read my review on the Shout! compilation for more details why she sucked at first.
Born 'Marie Mcdonald McLaughlin Lawrie' on stage/record 'Lulu' who crashed into the Charts way back in '64' with the number 'Shout' which peaked at number '7' in the Top 20 (U.K) Must admit thinking back to that time, I remember thinking how does a little-un like that produce such a rousing number, the little 'Scot' of course went on to have quite a list of Chart successes down the years. This release tells the story of much of her well known material on the 'Columbia' Label between 67' and 69' her first few chart entries including 'Shout' were on the 'Decca' Label and therefore missing from this collection, however there are many of her hits that are included such as - 'The Boat That I Row' (Chart '6' 1967) 'I'm A Tiger' (Chart '9' 1969) 'Boom Bang A Bang' (Chart '2' 1969) 'Me Peaceful Heart' (Chart '9' 1968) 'Boy' (Chart '15' 1968) 'Let's Pretend' (Chart '11 1967) and 'Love Loves To Love Love' (Chart '32' 1967) all among the track list on-board this album. Ironically 'Lulu' at the height of her Pop career failed to get a number '1' but finally did in 1993 featuring on the 'Take That' hit 'Relight My Fire' 'Lulu' has certainly maintained an active career, she's now an 'O.B.E' of course, have to also add she's certainly looked after herself, still looking good in her mid-sixties. This album has quite a lot of material in addition to the Hit's mentioned......a decent reflection of the 'Lady's' music.
Old hits, with a bunch of other old songs not on Greatest Hits or Crayons To Perfume. Has her version of Bowie's Watch That Man so to me that makes it essential.
