still is one of my favorite male vocalists. I never heard of Johnny Hartman until the movie
with Clint Eastwood, "Bridges of Madison County" came out and I heard this mellow,
captivating male vocalist whom I truly enjoyed as much as Billy Eckstine going back to the
fifties.
I researched his work and now own a half dozen or so Cd's dedicated to his large volume
of recorded songs and I am more than pleased with the man's artistry in delivering a
romantic old standard love song putting his personal stamp and technique and beautiful
voice on each and every one.
The man was incredibly talented and he left us prematurely much too soon.
You too will find his voice mellow and relaxing and a nice background for a romantic
interlude with your favorite other.
this guy! What a singer! I probably have around 300 c.d.'s , and this is my absolute favorite. Disc 2 in this set is a treasure. The voice is there in disc 1, but his growth in phrasing and timing is obvious in disc 2.
I am not a professional musician or critic. Just a guy who sings and plays a lot and enjoys beautiful music and beautiful vocals. In my humble opinion, Johnny Hartman is the best male singer of this genre ever! Between him and Diana Krall
jazz standards are at their best. A truly amazing disc made even greater by the
fantastic choice of songs and the sweet saxophone of John Coltrane on "My One and
Only Love" and "Lush Life."
