Not one track from his Columbia days here but no matter, that body of work has been heavily anthologized on other collections and/or re-recorded in stereo for Capital and Reprise and those two labels are represented here. This particular collection starts in 1953 and ends with 1984’s “L.A. Is My Lady.” The first two discs are filled to capacity while the third is at 71 minutes, pretty meaty and the mastering is absolutely amazing as is the price of this set. Get this limited edition while you can.

I have no complaints with the choices on the first 2 cds (except for one song on the 2nd cd). Though many of the song choices would not be MY choice in a retrospective (though I'm not sure THIS is a retrospective), they are still well sung by Sinatra.
A disappointment on the 2nd cd is his version of "I Left My Heart In San Francisco"; it sounds like he's coasting through it, and he leaves out the verse which puts the icing on the emotional context of the song (It sounds more like he left his luggage in San Francisco). Why record a song if you're going to sing a half-hearted, half-song version of it (Sinatra did the same thing to poor Hoagy Carmichael's "Stardust" on the album "Sinatra and Strings"). Just imagine what he could have done with "...San Francisco", if he sang it on the same level of his Capitol versions of "Autumn Leaves" & "My Funny Valentine"! Did he purposely sabotage it in order for it not to compete with Tony Bennett's version? I believe there's always room for two great versions (or more) of a song.
The 3rd cd is another thing. I would never have included either bad songs, badly sung songs or both like "Watertown", "Lady Day", "Let Me Try Again", "Sweet Caroline", "Anytime (I'lll Be There')", "Dry Your Eyes", "Song Sung Blue", "Here's To The Band", and "L.A. Is My Lady". Yuck (I'm surprised they didn't include his goofs like the bizarro "Some Enchanted Evening", "Life's A Trippy Thing", "Satisfy Me One More Time", "I Croak the Songs", and "She Shot Me Down"). If he was so determined to sing Neil Diamond songs, he should have tried "Love On The Rocks" and "Hello, Again" from the movie remake "The Jazz Singer" where Neil Diamond proved he couldn't act.
Where is "Drinking Again', "I'm Not Afraid", "Forget To Remember", "Empty Tables", or "You & Me (We Wanted It All)"? Most are on the Sinatra box sets "Frank Sinatra: The Reprise Collection" (the 4 cd collection) & "Ultimate Sinatra: 100 Songs Celebrating 100 Years" (the 4 cd collection). Make sure you get those sets also. You won't be disappointed.
Who made these choices for this present set and thought these vocal dead-on-arrivals deserved to be resusitated? I am beginning to wonder if there is someone within the Sinatra organization trying to diminish his fame.
Still, it IS Sinatra.

Music on Vinyl usually does a great job and this is no exception. But, this and most other collections miss one important recording, "High Hopes", from his movie "A Hole In The Head". If someone wanted to add a bonus track, they could include the re-recording Frank did for President Kennedy's campaign. With Frank on your side, who could miss!

Però se metto a confronto Cycles del CD originale è questa versione la differenza di qualità si sente.Ed ancora trovare in una stessa raccolta i grandi classici degli anni 50 e 60...in più brani come All the Way Cycles My Way L. A. Is My Lady....e come accennavo all'inizio altre chicche meno conosciute ma molto belle.... Direi che fare meglio è un po difficile.

Si le doy solo 4 estrellas no es porque algo me disguste de este triple CD (aunque no estaría de más una información mas detallada en esa carpetilla "de compromiso" que incluyen los CD) sino por el hecho de que aún siendo una de las más amplias de las muchas recopilaciones de SINATRA (74 canciones) faltan títulos significativos en ella. El sonido está remasterizado y suena sensacional. Resulta sorprendente (aunque en la España de nuestros días ya nada es sorprendente) que esta grabación NO SE DISTRIBUYA oficialmente en nuestro país, supongo que porque SINATRA suena como a algo del pasado y eso no suele estar bien visto.
No importa que se tengan otras grabaciones del artista; esta merece figurar al lado por la cantidad de maravillas que contiene; y es que SINATRA, como ELVIS o como GARDEL, cada día cantan mejor.
