Yahoo Lifestyle Colin Jost Asks $2.5 Million for Updated Downtown Duplex
With a new, A-lister movie star wife on his arm and a brand-new baby on his hip — not to mention half a dozen other larger and more luxurious homes to live in, “Saturday Night Live” head writer Colin Jost has put his longtime bachelor pad in lower Manhattan on the market at $2.5 million. Purchased by the baby-faced and dryly funny “Weekend Update” co-host in 2011 for the patriotic price of $1.776 million, the roughly 1,400-square-foot West Village duplex unit features lots of exposed brick, a wood-burning fireplace and, a coveted rarity in New York, a private courtyard patio.
Entered though a small vestibule entry, the two-bedroom and two-bath unit’s upper level has a combo living and dining room and a narrow kitchen with sunshine yellow cabinets and faience tile backsplash. Also upstairs is an en-suite guest bedroom where a claw-footed soaking tub sits somewhat unusually out in the open at the foot of the bed.
A metal corkscrew staircase painted gold makes a tight wind down to the lower level where a second living room has antique terra-cotta floor tiles and direct access to the brick-paved courtyard patio. According to listings held by Noble Black at Douglas Elliman, the patio includes a pre-wired projector screen for outdoor movie watching, though the the neighbors with windows that look into the patio might not always appreciate that feature. A laundry room and the main bedroom, the latter of which includes a nice-sized walk-in closet and standard-sized bath emblazoned with more faience tile work, complete the lower level.
Jost has already vacated his downtown digs but he wife Scarlett Johansson still have six — that’s right, six! — other homes between them in which they can rest their heads and bring up baby, including two homes in the Hamptons. Jost has had a house in Montauk since 2015 when he bought it for about $2.15 million, while Johannson has owned a cute-as-a-button hidey-hole down a private Amagansett lane since 2013 when she picked it up for $2.2 million.
No stranger to the property gossip columns, Johansson’s extensive residential portfolio also includes a home in Los Angeles the “Black Window” star bought in 2014 for $3.88 million as well as a $4 million home in sleepy Snedens Landing, N.Y., where she and Jost are believed to have been married in October 2020 in an “intentionally intimate” ceremony. She still owns a two-bedroom penthouse in Midtown Manhattan that’s been for sale since 2019, currently at $1.995 million — below the $2.1 million she paid in 2008, as well as a spacious 7-room corner spread on the Upper East Side, at the tony Carlyle House, that she discreetly picked up about five years ago for nearly $6 million.
