It could still be happening. Cloverfield always strikes when the iron is ice cold. It’s very secretive, we’ve been lucky to know that there even is a movie being made.

No one knows

NO ONE CARES ABOUT A SINGLE VIOLIN

There haven’t been any real updates since last fall, and even those were glorified updates following the end of the strikes. Whatever was in development was certainly pushed back indefinitely for these creators’ other projects. At the moment, JJ Abrams and Matt Reeves are still attached to this as producers, with Joe Barton writing and Babak Anvari directing.

The biggest obstacle I foresee is the impending sale of Paramount Studios, which would be the distributor here. Beyond that, none of those four are expressly working on a Cloverfield project at the moment. Sure, there’s secrecy, but there’s also commitments elsewhere and the writing/directing duo are busy working in the US and internationally.

If there’s any career worth keeping an eye on in the interim I’d say it’s Dan Trachtenberg; 10 Cloverfield Lane wasn’t his story but he directed it to the acclaim we’re familiar with, and he helped write PREY, which he directed for 20th Century. He’s also busy with as many as two follow ups to PREY, but he’s also expressed interest in continuing to play in the Cloverfield sandbox. I can imagine DT back directing a future Cloverfield flick for sure.

See this is what’s so unique about this series. We know one was in production, but the way they release these is something’s gonna drop randomly one day. It could already be made and ready to go, dropping next week. Or it could’ve been cancelled for months. We just don’t know and it’s kinda frustrating but also just an acceptance with this series haha

One day soon a series of clues will appear on the internet...

It’s just rumors like always. Anyone who claims to know anything more is just lying.

I’d like to believe it’s already Been shot

If IMDb is anything to go off of, on the IMDb page for JJ Abraham’s it does say they’re working on the film. I can’t remember what stage they said they were working on if it did say. They’re probably still writing it if anything. And we all know how many time potential clover field sequels turn into different movies (overlord)

It’s still in development last I heard. I’m sure it’s been delayed due to the actors and writes guild strikes.

I asked Joe Barton on Twitter yesterday and he claims he has no idea what’s going on with the film. He also said “Nah” when I wondered if it had already been shot. I asked if it’s somehow stuck in development hell and it seems this way to him.

They couldn't create a story atm as the monster hasn't reappeared just yet.

Frankly, it’s completely up in the air.

If you haven’t learnt already, Cloverfield ain’t exactly some massive project for anyone involved. It’s been consistently put on the back burner for YEARS at a time, with several ideas/projects never coming to fruitition. Not to mention frankly, we’ve never had a true “sequel,” to Cloverfield, as JJ Abrams literally just scoops up movies he thinks could be a part of the brand, slaps some references in it, and calls it a Cloverfield film, as was the case with 10 Cloverfield Lane & The Cloverfield Paradox.

Cloverfield 4 was confirmed several years ago with Abrams producing alongside the original director Matt Reeves returning in a producer role. Joe Barton is writing it, but updates have been noticeably stagnant since it’s confirmation lmao. No offense to Barton, but he isn’t exactly a fast writer, and just judging by Abrams & Reeves’ other commitments, it’s pretty obvious Cloverfield 4 probably isn’t happening for at LEAST another 5 years, and that’s being generous.

I'm quite pessimistic about the new movie these days, but I have a feeling that when we are least expecting it we will receive a super criptic teaser or the websites will be updated or something like that. Idk.

its not coming out and never was

As much as Halflife3

I’d love another anthology film. I really enjoy the whole vibe of the first two movies, they’re so immersive and the ARG’s were a lot of fun. I just hope any attempt at any direct sequel fails before it gets made. It’ll just be a rehash/cash grab and the final nail in the coffin for the franchise

u/DrAwesomeX avatar

Not sure why this is getting downvoted when you’re 100000% right

All of the films are arguably anthology films. The first two films had a brilliant ARG and Paradox really didn’t beyond the Tagruato website being fucked up, which wasn’t really anything compared to the first two films.

I will disagree on your complaint about a direct sequel. If anything I think most can agree Paradox canonically making it so that none of the films took place in the same timeline, and that the monsters literally showed up out of no where, was beyond boring as fuck. If they did a proper sequel to the first film, it would be a lot more interesting at this point tbh

Why so down voted.. what was wrong with the first 2 movies that started the damn thing

We want an actual sequel to the movie that makes paramount/JJ Abrams so interested in slapping the Cloverfield name on anything that resembles a mysterious sci-fi movie…. Which is arguably a cash grab in itself
