andrew k How we got here. If you're a fan of Kevin Smith, both his movies and otherwise, this is wonderful. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review cd m I give all these clerk movies a chance just to be always a bore and waste of time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I've always loved Kevin Smiths work, so it was great to see some more of the behind the scenes story that I didn't already know. This was directed by a longtime friend of Kevin's, so that likely helped to get much more involved and personal interviews. Although I do think it negatively added to the length, as he may not have wanted to offend by cutting out too much on any one subject(some of them could have been trimmed quite a bit though). 7/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Very interesting documentary about the life and truly historic career of the one Kevin smith. Personally I am a huge fan and if I wasn't then I wouldn't see this movie in the first place. Anyway for me none of this information is new to besides his early childhood and stuff. If your a brand new Kevin smith fan and know nothing about him then watch this. But if your like me and been a fan since 2017 or whenever then you'll already know all about his career. To me this is a generic well put together documentary if your a college student. For me the best documentary's are always the behind the scenes while filming a movie or something. Those are always cool like the new Beatles doc on Disney. That's fascinating but in this movie going through his whole career with nothing specific and just all summary it gets boring. And instead of being interesting it feels like an ego boosting for Kevin smith. Heck if this was a summary doc about me I would feel like my ego was boosted a little bit. But anyway this is a good summary movie. Is it interesting if your an old Kevin smith fan and know everything about him already? No but if you're a new Kevin smith fan then you'll like this. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review peter w This was depressing to say the least. I used to love this guy and his pictures, but its like he ran out of ideas 20 years ago and refuses to admit it to himself or anyone else. This documentary will remind you of how good he used to be, and that'll make you sad when you realize how far he's fallen. Jay and Silent Bob were the rebellious icons of an entire generation. Now Silent Bob is just part of the establishment, selling out to the same corporations he once rebelled against. It's sad. Becca James Chicago Reader It proves time and again that Smith's career is one worth considering, celebrating, and continuing to follow. Dec 4, 2021 Full Review Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com Instead of self-criticism or just plain self-assessment, we mostly get a lot of self-regard and self-pity. Rated: 1/4 Nov 23, 2021 Full Review Nick Allen RogerEbert.com For all the reasons that it has to not exist, Clerk at least offers a good time. Mar 22, 2021 Full Review Dallas King Flick Feast Clerk is unlikely to change anyone’s opinion on his films. However it would be near impossible not to come away from the movie without being charmed by the man himself and his passion for what he does. Rated: 4/5 Nov 12, 2022 Full Review Danilo Castro Next Best Picture Clerk is a good starting point for Smith novices, but longtime fans may feel like they're watching a retread of the more in-depth documentaries that came before it. A fun watch, but not a revelatory one. Rated: 6/10 May 17, 2022 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Doesnt have much of the rebel spirit that make Smith's real life story so compelling.
