Heading to the Cotswolds - best car option?

Hi there,

We’re headed to the Cotswolds from London for the upcoming bank holiday. I was looking into Zipcar but can see that the Cotswolds is slightly above the 60 miles included in the car. Does it make sense renting a car at that point for the weekend vs a Zipcar in and out?

Appreciate if anyone has done anything that helps reaching the area!

For longer trips I've tended to use Hiyacar. The platform allows people to offer their cars for short term rental - but Hiyacar have their own fleet of cars offered too, I always just use theirs. You unlock via the Mobile App, same as Zipcar. Main plus is their cars have 200 miles / day allowance. Note that you have to pay for petrol yourself, unlike Zipcar.

We did a trip up to the Peak District in one last year, worked out perfectly.

Similar to Hiyacar: Turo,p and Getaround. All three are worth a look although their prices have gone up a lot compared to a few years ago.

You'll struggle to book anything but a van from Zipcar now. Even on a normal weekend it's difficult to get a car for a full day with a week's notice, and bank holidays get booked up way in advance.

Regular car hire companies will be cheaper for multi-day trips most of the time anyway. Zipcar's pricing is meant to encourage shorter trips.

compare the cost to a normal hire company eg avis, hertz etc

I would stay away from either hiring a car or the A/M40 over Easter.

Is Zip worth it? Always looked expensive to me. Enterprise will do you a c class car for 250 Friday to Monday next weekend.

You don't need a car, the bus service is cheap and pretty reliable.

Bus service? In the cotswold? Ha bloody ha. Good one.

Google "cotswolds without a car", many resources to help you plan your trip. It's brillant, less stressful and costed me around £4 per day in transport.
