Clark Gregg, who made his MCU debut as Agent Phil Coulson in 2008's Iron Man, has been a fan favorite in the franchise for years. Despite the character dying in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series, the actor says he could make a comeback thanks to the multiverse.

"[Coulson isn't dead] in every timeline!" Gregg said during an appearance on the Love in the Time of Hydra: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Podcast. He also touched on what a return for Coulson would mean for what is considered canon in the story. "Look, you are playing in a multiverse scenario in various timelines without you being like, 'I don't know, there are many multiverses here.' People are very upset about whether things are canon [or not], and I love that Kevin [Feige] is [like] The Oz."

Actor Clark Gregg, who is best known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson in the MCU, has been honored as Pacific Clinics' Champion of Mental Health.

Regarding fans' hopes of seeing him in Avengers: Secret Wars, Gregg said, "That's really sweet. I just love that there's a connection with Coulson, I think because he was such an early part of the thing and the kind of the human face of the world." However, Gregg also noted that while he would love to play Couson again, he's already had a good run. "But the canon of people that they feel that way about has grown, and there's plenty... It's hard for me to go, 'Yeah, it's alright, I had 10 great years, maybe 12,'" he added.

Agent Phil Coulson Is An MCU Fan-Favorite

Although Agent Phil Coulson did not originate in the Marvel comic books, the character quickly became popular with fans after appearing in several MCU movies. Viewers were disappointed when Coulson met his demise at the hands of Loki in 2012's The Avengers. Marvel Television later resurrected the valiant S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in the ABC series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, the method of his revival became increasingly complex over the course of the show.
