Wow! I found this place online and could not believe my good luck. This is a jewel box of a studio room in the heart of Jerusalem's Christian quarter, just a block of so from the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. It's absolutely lovely: recently renovated, with a tiny but ultra modern bathroom, a small kitchenette with coffee and tea, and a sleeping platform, all in an ancient building. There is the kind of attention to detail that denotes the very best places--an electrical adapter for us foreigners, for example, and a listing of sights and eating places nearby. An exceptional place to explore the Holy City.. . and at a very reasonable price for the quality of the place!

For many pilgrims, visiting the Christian Quarter is the highlight of their visit to the Holy Land. The Christian Quarter Old City contains many sites of interest. Probably the Via Dolorosa, which follows Christ's journey of suffering, and ends at the Holy Sepulcher where Jesus was crucified, died and was buried, is the highlight. There are many interesting shops in the area, selling everything from Roman antiquities to nuts and herbs. You will usually smell cardamon, the distinctive spice that is included in Arab coffee.

The Christian Quarter is where the Via Dolorosa terminates, at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Should you wish to walk the entire Via Dolorosa, begin your journey in the Muslim Quarter. There is much to see and experience from within the busy Christian Quarter and is an essential destination in any Christian pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

The Christian Quarter has many religious institutions, the most important being the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, where Jesus was crucified, died, buried and rose again. Most of the residents of the Christian Quarter are Palestinians. The Christian Quarter is in the heart of Jerusalem, surrounded by the Old Walled City.

A walk through the historic streets of this quadrant. It is somewhat commercialized with all the vendors along the narrow cobblestone walkways. I walked through the area on three days, which included two visits to the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Many Christian faiths are present in the area and share custody of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Among others they include the Greek Orthodox, the Roman Catholic, and the Armenian Orthodox,

We would like to warn other travellers about making a purchase in Amber Gallery in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem. We were initially drawn to this shop because it displayed very attractive items by the Israeli designer, Yair Emanuel.

We bought two menorah, a mazzuzah and two candles. The proprietor offered us a much reduced price, guaranteeing us that it was much lower than on the Internet. Because they were designer items, I think we were somewhat seduced. He offered to show us the prices on the Internet, and then was unable to show us because he claimed he had no signal.

We were taken to his brothers jewellery shop to pay as he claimed not to have a card machine. Here we were subjected to very uncomfortable hard sell by his brother, and foolishly we ended up buying some hugely overpriced jewellery.

We own to having been very naive, but we are two very sensible women who have been totally taken aback by how easily we allowed this to happen. Needless to say we saw the items we had purchased on the Internet and also at the Holocaust Museum gift shop for less than half the amount we paid.

Please would other travellers be warned.if it can happen to us, it can happen to you. Avoid Amber Gallery at all costs.

I am sorry to read the two other reviews of the Amber Gallery Shops 3 & 13 in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem - my experiences have been excellent! For me, visiting the Holy Land was a life changing experience in so many ways; and I especially love Jerusalem! This last visit, my third, was for two months (excavating on an archaeological dig and exploring Jerusalem to my heart’s content). I made several visits to, and purchases from, the Amber Gallery Shops. I found the young men to be hospitable and accommodating; even procuring items for me (at no additional cost) which they didn't carry in their shops, but which I wanted as gifts and souvenirs. When they knew I was coming to the market, my favorite cup of herbal mint tea would almost “magically” appear within a couple of minutes. For over 80 years their family has conducted business in the Old City. Hospitality is very important and a matter of “honor” to their family.
Part of the charm of shopping in the Old City is the energetic interactions between visitors and the shop keepers. Each of the different “quarters” has wonderful items from their cultures to purchase. Bargaining between parties expected and is enjoyable especially when the customer feels they have gotten “a great deal” and the vendors make a profit so they can continue in business.
One of the specialties of the Amber Gallery is their beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry made from 2000 year-old Roman Glass; designed and made by the family members – not mass-produced nor sold on the internet. They use the highest quality in gold, silver and authentic Roman Glass. They are one of very few vendors in the Old City which are authorized to present Certificates of Authenticity to their customers when they purchase the Roman Glass jewelry.
Since returning home, I have continued to purchase items from Amber Gallery – the last time being January 2015. They have been very timely in their shipping and I have been completely satisfied with my purchases. The one time a ceramic plate arrived, and it was broken, the owners mailed a replacement plate the next day at no additional cost to me.
I hope my comments will encourage visitors to the Old City Jerusalem to make a special trip to the Amber Gallery Shops in the Christian Quarter. I am confident that you will be pleased with your experience. Best regards….a very pleased, repeat customer.

Two shops in the Old City that were decent, honest & upstanding and EVERYTHING is priced unlike traders in other quarters. I believe his son was there when we went last week and it was a pleasure to do all my shopping in one place, in peace without being harassed or followed around the shop. I took his card and said I would post the details on the internet for those travellers who don't like bartering.
