His death marked the extinction of the original Franconian line of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach-Kulmbach. Upon his death Ansbach and Kulmbach were inherited by younger princes of the Brandenburg line according to the House Treaty of Gera of 1598.

Charles Alexander sold his Margraviate to Prussia in 1791.

His death marked the extinction of the original Franconian line of the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach-Kulmbach. Upon his death Ansbach and Kulmbach were inherited by younger princes of the Brandenburg line according to the House Treaty of Gera of 1598.
