Chiswick is a beautiful and distinguished district located in the West London.
Its beautiful streets with Victorian houses, the creative independent shops in the village-like area, and lovely river walks make this neighborhood an amazing option to explore a picturesque side of London.
So if you’re planning exactly that, here’s the best things to do in Chiswick! From a Londoner.
15 Best Things to Do in Chiswick, London
1. Chiswick House and Gardens
BURLINGTON LANE, W4 2RP
Chiswick House and Gardens is one of the most splendid and significant examples of Neo-Palladian architecture in London. It offers a serene walk into the past, with its majestic house, beautiful gardens, and rich history — all in West London!
The Chiswick House was completed in 1729 and was inspired by the architecture of ancient Rome. You can explore its exquisite interior, the collection of old paintings, and the whole ambience of high society from back in the day.
Next to the extravagant house you’ll find the Gardens, which are considered the birthplace of the English Landscape Movement. Here you can find a range of statues, lawns, a lake, and a large conservatory.
Chiswick House and Gardens host many events throughout the year including art exhibitions, historical tours, food festivals, and concerts. So keep an eye on their calendar!
2. The Old Cinema
160 CHISWICK HIGH ROAD, W4 1PR
The Old Cinema is a unique thing to do in Chiswick that film lovers and antique enthusiasts alike will love (and yes, I’m one of them).
The building, which started as a cinema, has been repurposed into an antique and vintage furniture store, which is now known as one of the best places in London to find unique and eclectic pieces.
Among the things that you can find here are statement furniture, interesting lighting, vintage fashion, and quirky accessories, all with amazing character.
One of the key highlights of The Old Cinema is that they continuously change the lineup of furniture and accessories. With new items arriving weekly, there’s always a reason to visit again and again.
P.S. – Another good one is Chiswick Antiques Vintage Etc.!
3. Chiswick Sunday Market
The Chiswick Sunday Market is a vibrant community event that brings together a diverse range of local vendors, shoppers, and food enthusiasts every week.
Located in the open spaces near Chiswick High Road and set from 10 a.m. to around 2 p.m., this market specialises in a variety of goods, ranging from fresh ingredients to artisanal food, vintage clothing, antiques, and much more.
Even though this is the biggest in the area, you should also check the Chiswick Calendar to spot other popular markets in the neighbourhood.
Some of my favorites include the Car Boot Sale that happens every first Sunday of the month, the Flower Market also on the first Sunday, and the Chiswick Cheese Market that takes place every third Sunday of the month.
4. Chiswick Riverside Walks
Chiswick is situated right on the bank of the River Thames, so it only makes sense that you enjoy your time there with a picturesque walk.
The tranquility of the river, the beautiful trees that change with the seasons, and the great businesses in the area will make you feel like you’ve left London altogether.
You can start from the Chiswick Park Tube station, head south towards Chiswick High Road, and continue until you reach the historical Chiswick Mall. You’ll then get to the Thames and can follow the stream towards the gorgeous Hammersmith Bridge.
Some of the local pubs like The Steam Packet, The Bell & Crown, and The City Barge make a great pit stop for food, pints, and views.
5. Jazz at George IV
185 HIGH ROAD, W4 2DR
George IV is a dynamic pub which transforms into a vibrant social hub when the sun goes down — particularly on Jazz nights.
The pub is widely recognised for hosting fantastic live music events, and the Jazz Nights are a firm favourite among Chiswick locals and tourists alike.
They usually have different musicians and bands that play a range of styles, including traditional, fusion, bossa nova, and contemporary jazz (they happen every week, but check the calendar to secure your visit on the correct day).
The place is also intimate and seductive, perfect for a date in Chiswick. They also sell food, but make sure you book a table if you want a good and comfortable spot to enjoy the show.
6. Theatre at the Tabard
2 BATH ROAD, W4 1LW
Theatre at the Tabard is a go-to venue for theatre enthusiasts.
With its intimate atmosphere, innovative productions, and deep links with the local community, it provides a wonderfully immersive theatre experience beyond the usual crowds of London’s West End.
It opened its doors in 1985 above the historic Tabard Pub and has kept its originality ever since. Since then it’s been host to a number of well-received shows and regularly welcomes new writing, making it possible to hear (and experience) emerging talent and voices all the time.
You won’t be disappointed by what you see, but make sure to check the calendar regularly to get your tickets in advance. They sell out fast!
7. Headliners Comedy Club
THE BOSTON ROOM, THE GEORGE IV PUB, 185 CHISWICK HIGH ROAD, W4 2DR
The Headliners Comedy Club, served by the George IV pub downstairs, is considered one of London’s best stand-up comedy venues.
Showcasing top-tier comedic talent in an intimate setting (both established and up-and-coming), Headliners offers a lively and fun alternative for a night out in the city.
It has hosted some of the biggest names in comedy in the UK, like Micky Flanagan and Miranda Hart. But their big diversity of acts will guarantee a good experience regardless your style and taste.
Whether you’re a fan of stand-up comedy or simply want a night filled with an inappropriate amount of laughter, Chiswick’s Headliners Comedy Club promises an unforgettable night in the neighbourhood.
8. Foster’s Books
183 CHISWICK HIGH ROAD, W4 2DR
Foster’s Bookshop is a true gem for book lovers in Chiswick, and beyond.
This charming antique and second-hand bookshop offers an eclectic mix of literature, with an atmosphere of nostalgia and curiosity you’ll find simply irresistible.
It has a rare collection of books that packs the store from floor to ceiling. From literary classics and art to history, children’s books, and more. It also stocks prints, maps, and engravings, making it a perfect haunt for collectors and enthusiasts of rare things.
The bookstore isn’t just a place to buy books; it’s a community hotspot.
The shop often hosts author readings, signings, book launches, and more. In addition, it also participates in the annual Bedford Park Festival!
9. Hogarth’s House
HOGARTH LANE, GREAT WEST ROAD, W4 2QN
Historically rich and culturally significant, Hogarth’s House in Chiswick is a well-preserved heritage site.
The house was the former residence of the 18th-century English artist, William Hogarth, best known for his satirical artwork and engraving. Since 1904, it’s operated as a public museum dedicated to his life and works.
The house itself is an appealing Grade I listed building and one of the very few artist’s houses surviving in the capital from this period. The collection, on the other side, offers visitors a unique insight into his life and work.
Additionally, visitors can also explore the artist’s workspace and a beautiful and calm garden, featuring a Mulberry tree that dates back to Hogarth’s time.
10. Chiswick Business Park
566 CHISWICK HIGH ROAD, W4 5YA
Chiswick Business Park is a unique and vibrant commercial development that combines stunning architecture with on-site amenities for visitors or those working in it.
The park hosts a multitude of companies from technology, media, and telecommunications to fashion, entertainment, and professional services. Popular examples include Disney, Sony, Discovery, and Starbucks, among others.
Amenities include an on-site gym, several restaurants and cafes, landscaped underground car parking, and dedicated pick-up points for taxis and private hires.
The park is also renowned for its ‘Enjoy-Work’ initiative, providing a bunch of on-site events and activities like food markets, beach volleyball courts, outdoor cinema showings, and charity events.

14. Chiswick Pubs
One of the great pleasures of socialising in London is the traditional pub scene, and in Chiswick, there’s no shortage of excellent options.
These 3 options stand out for their classic charm and the hearty pub vibe:
The Crown & Anchor
With a prime location on Chiswick’s High Road, it’s a modern British pub offering a broad range of craft beers, worldwide wines, and an extensive cocktail list. Ideal for a relaxed West London lunch, a delicious Sunday roast, or a night out with friends.
The Roebuck
This one is a traditional Chiswick pub that offers a cosy atmosphere along with stunning views (thanks to its gorgeous courtyard garden). Inside, you’ll find antique mirrors, dark wood tables, a roaring log fire, and a homely backdrop for your pint.
The Swan
In a building that dates back to 1871, this is a sort of different pub, as it features a Mediterranean-inspired menu that’s won many Chiswick ollowers over the years. It is cosy, beautiful and has a wonderful garden for the summer. You won’t want to miss it.

It also hosts a Farmers Market every Sunday, allowing you to grab some delicious local products during your visit.

This treasured local green space between Turnham Green and Chiswick Park holds a vital place in the community, not only for leisure and recreational activities but as a significant point of conservation. A distinctive feature of it is the historic cricket pitch, which has been in use for over 125 years.
