Welcome to The Cherwell School

It is a great pleasure to welcome you to The Cherwell SchoolA Centre of Opportunity. We invite you to get to know us.  We have all the advantages of being a large school in that we offer a very wide range of curricular and extracurricular opportunities. However, our two sites enable us to create smaller and more personal units within the whole school. This makes it easier to know, support and value each student; in this school each individual matters to us.

The Cherwell School is excited to announce that we are working towards the Investor in Careers Quality Award. The DfE statutory guidance (January 2018) strongly recommends schools achieve a Quality in Careers Award to demonstrate the quality of their CEIAG provision. For further information about Investors in Careers please go on https://investorincareers.org.uk/why-choose-iic/

This award will showcase our commitment to students to provide them with an outstanding Careers Provision that meets all of the eight Gatsby benchmarks. It will look carefully at our Careers Education programme from Year 7 to 13 and our partnerships with businesses, colleges and universities.

The Investor in Careers Award is about improving students’ awareness of opportunities, raising their aspirations and working with them to ensure they achieve their full potential.

If any parent/carer has any questions about this award or would like to discuss our careers programme which can be found on https://www.cherwell.oxon.sch.uk/enrichment/careers-centre

Please contact Jason Davis (Careers Adviser and Careers Leader) jdavis@cherwell.oxon.sch.uk.

Booking on line will close at noon on the day of the performance – We cannot guarantee there will be tickets on the door any evening, but we will sell anything available.

The Cherwell celebrates excellent GCSE results

For GCSEs:
Number of pupils sitting exams     267
% grade 4 and above in English     93.7
% grade 4 and above in Maths       86.2
Attainment 8                                           60.1
EBacc % entry                                         49.1
EBacc % success                                    46.5

The school is delighted with its GCSE results. The vast majority of our students have achieved the grades they need to move forward into the next stage of their education and training. We are very happy for them.
In the second year of the new 9-1 grading system, we are very pleased that our students have achieved extremely well.  We are delighted with overall levels of progress and attainment with some fantastic performances across the full ability range.
We have really enjoyed working with this group since they joined us in year 7. They are a special group of people who have offered a great deal to the school.
I wanted to thank the staff (both teaching and non-teaching) who have supported them all the way through.

The Cherwell School celebrates excellent A level results!

Number of A level candidates               240

% Passes A* and A                                         33%

% Passes A* to B                                             59%

% Passes A*-C                                                  80%

% Passes A* to E                                             98%

We are pleased with these A level results which reflect the hard work of students and staff, alongside the invaluable support of parents and carers.

As one of the largest and most successful state funded school Sixth Forms in the country it is rewarding to see so many students having done well right across the ability range This cohort was made up of 240 students and I am so pleased for them and for their teachers.

With results like these our students are well placed to take up their places at universities or their career paths in line with their intentions; they were a special year group, contributed a great deal to the school and have deserved their success.
