Charles Richard Curtis, age 84, of Xenia, passed away Thursday, April 28, 2022 in Hillsboro, surrounded by family.
He was born January 29, 1938 in Bowersville, Ohio, the son of Charles Glenn and Dorothy L. (Jasper) Curtis.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Donna M. (Fulk) Curtis in 2021; two great granddaughters; and sister-in-law, Peggy Curtis.
Richard is survived by his daughters, Cathy (Eric) Hughes of Hillsboro; and Beth (James) Richardson of Lancaster; a brother, Paul Curtis of Xenia; seven grandchildren, Zach Hughes, Mandi Hughes, Ashlei Dodge, Aleesha Shriver, Kalyb Hughes, Corey and Cody Richardson; 25 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was anxiously awaiting the birth of his first great great granddaughter.
Richard graduated from Jefferson High School in Bowersville, where he had played on the 1954-55 Regional Championship teams, contributing to their record of 27-2. He also was the County Foul Shooting Champ 1954-55, pitched in three world horseshoe tournaments; and played baseball.
He worked at the Greene County Treasurer's office, before going on to the banking industry, retiring from Citizens 1st National Bank after 27 years.
Richard was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Xenia.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Evangelical United Methodist Church.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 at McColaugh Funeral Home, 826 N. Detroit St., Xenia with Pastor Thomas Hite officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. He will be buried with his wife at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bowersville.
