I have visited Centaur Theatre on multiple occasions and their productions are always excellent. Even if a particular play may not be to your liking, the actors are always excellent, and the space is tasteful and welcoming. NO bad seats!

Really, really looking forward to their first production back after COVID.

The leg room is very short and we are small people. Luckily one seat empty beside us
Bathrooms as usual very busy at intermission. They were adequate. The bar was fine
The show was fantastic and we had a wonderful time
If in Montreal. Look to see if a show is on and go.
Even if it doesn’t seem your type.
We had a lovely evening

I had a fun night at Centaur Theater last evening for Blind Date opening night! I visit this theater on a regular basis and I really appreciate the quality of the plays.

How the old Stock Exchange Building has been refashioned to house a 440-seater proscenium arch theatre is nothing short of a a marvel! You enter through the right of the building where the box office, cafe and foyer are located, mount stairs to the mezzanine where the doors to the actual auditorium stand, and then the raked spectating area descends all the way to the front of stalls and the stage, which are located at the extreme left of the building, and here is where you also exit at the end of the performance. Hence, you literally enter through the right of that colonnaded facade and exit from the left. Who would have imagined the neo-palladian exterior to mask such a clever internal configuration? One would have expected the building to be deep and the stage to be in the bowels of the building. It's therefore a credit to the renovators that sound-proofing and acoustics are so good that one can't hear any intrusive street noise when the performance is on. We caught the company's 50th anniversary production, Choir Boy by Tarell Alvin McCraney, with a mainly black cast. It's therefore a testament to the artistic director's inspiring inclusiveness that a play dealing with an ethnic minority has been selected as the anniversary outing. For those who might choose to book online, be reminded that seats which are not numbered consecutively could in fact be side by side. We sat on the second row from the front and though our pair of tickets seems to skip a digit, such as seats 9 and 11, they were actually adjacent seats. And in the cosy lobby is a photo opportunity - a lone theatre seat against a photo wall of the auditorium, where one might pose for a picture as memento of a visit to Montreal's only English language theatre.

I have been there at least 10 times and every time it's just amazing! You can't go wrong with Centaur. So if you happen to pass by and there's a play, go and see it. You won't regret it.
And even if like me, you are French-educated; don't worry, you will understand everything and have a great time :)

this exposed brick small theatre in Old Montreal is a find. We have seen several shows here and are always impressed with the quality of the production. This theatre is especially good at their sets and the staging quality. Good website for booking online, and easy to pick up tickets at the counter. well worth it.

So, it seems silly to go all the way to Montreal just to sit in a theatre and watch a play, exactly like I can do in my home town. Nevertheless, let me rave about the Centaur Theatre. We stumbled across it as we were searching for something interesting to do in Old Montreal (not an easy thing to do in April when ice cream shops are shuttered and outdoor patios are just being built...and the weather makes them unattractive any how.) Established in an elegant old bank, we were wowed by the huge columns and 20 foot banners hanging outside of the theatre. The staff were polite, efficient, and helpful.
Although the play itself was mediocre (4000 Miles), the acting was excellent. The theatre is spotless, holds about 150 people and the view is great from every seat.
There's also a lovely lounge where I wish we'd gone for coffee or a drink before the play instead of wandering aimlessly looking for an attractive open cafe.

I went to see this most recent play from the "Mambo Italiano, playright, Steve Galluccio, entitled, "The St. Leonard Chronicles". It was very enjoyable and the energy from the audience was palatable. The jokes were fast and furious, and the references to things "Italian", were met with waves of hoots from a mixed audience of old and young (it was a matinee). I would have appreciated less cussing, but Galluccio was playing to the audience's expectation of stereotypes.

Centaur Theatre tickets are less expensive by booking with an operator on the phone. You avoid a $10 administrative fee online. Go figure! You would think it would be the other way around.

If you are with someone who needs assistance, remember that you can use the street entrance to the left of the main door, thereby avoiding the stairs to the top of the theatre.

Left at intermission. Number 14 is dated, childish and pointless. Some of the skits are clever, most are like a high school talent show. Do not pay for this show!

A shockingly terrible production that may make sense to the Quebecois but left us absolutely baffled. I was embarrassed for the actors performing in a ludicrous production whose only redeeming feature was an interesting stage design. There was no intermission for the 1 hour 45 minute show probably because the producers knew most of the audience would leave at the break. This is the kind of production that is contributing to the death of regional theatre.
