    It’s ok at best
Fairly good castle to see, visually from outside looks good, inner courtyard is ok. Castle itself is fairly basic and doesn’t really have a WOW factor for me. Some of the rooms Set up as a museum with underwhelming art work. Not expensive to see for me not a must do in Naples.

There are better places for a bit of history!
Getting into this place is hard work! Online it isn't clear that you have to book a time slot to enter but this is definitely best otherwise you'll be taking a chance getting in. When we arrived just before 14.30 lots of people milling around and then staff came out and split us into those with prebooked tickets and those without. Just after we joined the queue they started turning everyone away saying they were full. The price of entrance is €6 but this only gets you into the museum and Chapel. Honestly these are not worth it. The chapel has an art exhibition in and the museum is full of religious art. These took us about 10 mins to look at. So for €10 you can join the tour and see the rest of the castle. As the tour was in Italian we had a discount of €5. We decided to take the tour and managed to follow some of it. I'm not really sure it would be worth €10 each to do this even if we did understand it all. There are lots of better places to go in Naples and I wouldn't really bother.

    Castle full of surprises
Fantastic castle. Bought to life by the English tour guide. Would definitely recommend the additional 10 euros for the tour. The tour allows VIP access to areas you cannot get to with the standard entry. Make sure you book you time slot in advance. Parts we liked were the surprise under the floor and seeing the crocodile pit.

    MUST SEE
Nice Castle to visit in the middle of Napoli. Just the administration (again ...) is a little complicated. Entrance tickets can be booked only online - the tour inside with the guide can be booked only inside the castle and to be paid by cash... this gives you the opportunity to see the museum, the castle and the tour will allow you to go on the top on the stairs which are about 6 floors (even though we saw that the elevator was functioning well). The tour is highly recommended and our guide was great!

Well preserved castle with some surprises
This imposing structure is worth the look. You can pay for either self-guided tours or guided tours. I went with guided to better understand the history of this as well as gaining access to part the self-guided don't see. Fascinating to see the archaeology under the castle grounds, complete with skeletons. There is a museum section with displays brought in that have nothing to do with the castle. There is another section with ancient art work.

Great tour. Both educational and entertaining
I was born in Naples and I visited Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino) multiple times. They now offer a tour for €10 which includes a guided tour. In this tour we saw: the castle museum, the Roman ruins below the castle, the secret passageway, the throne room, the terrace at the top of the castle, the prisons. The tour is offered either in English or Italian. We took the Italian one and our guide Valeria was amazing. She gave us so much info but always kept the tour funny and interactive. As I visited the castle many times as a kid or a teenager, but the way the tour is organized today makes it so much better. Definitely something to have on your list when visiting Naples.

    A little underwhelming experience
Being a fan of castles, I was quite excited by the presence of a medieval castle right in the heart of Naples. The castle’s exterior structure, with its eye-catching 5 cylindrical towers, is certainly impressive. But my joy was short-lived as we entered the castle after paying a total of €11 comprising entry and guided tour fees (discounted from €16 as the guided tour in English was cancelled and we have to follow an Italian guide). Notwithstanding that I did not understand the tour guide, the atmosphere in the internal courtyard was filled with loud music and emceeing from a kids event being held there, which certainly took away the novelty of my visit. We were brought to the Palatine Chapel, Throne Room and top of the rampart for views of the surrounding Port of Naples, and self-explored the underground prison and the Armoury Hall to see the Roman ruins under the glass floor. Overall, I was expecting to see more of the preserved interiors of the castle, so what I got to see was definitely underwhelming.

    Medieval castle in central Naples
This is a medieval castle located in front of Piazza Municipio and the city hall in central Naples. It is also known as Maschio Angioino. The port is also nearby. We started our Amalfi tour from the port and noticed this imposing castle in a scenic location. This castle was first erected in 1279, so of historical significance.

We had made a booking for 11.30 but there was a "problem" with the ticket office which resulted in us waiting for 45 minutes to get in. The guided option is too expensive for what it is, so we opted for the 6euro entrance to the museum only, but there were literally only about 20 paintings to see with no explanation or background for each one. Way overpriced and really bad customer service, as we were instructed we needed to make a reservation and be there on time but they made us wait for ages.
All in all, there are better castles to visit in the area, wouldn't recommend this one.

This castle is a standout when you drive or walk past it to get to the piers and around the city museums. There is plenty of excavation and dig sites around it including 3 large boats nearby. The castle itself has an exceptional entrance, be sure to look at both sides of the arch and the ceiling plus the doors. [It is the best part I saw of the castle - the outside].

Late October 2019:

It costs E6 for basic entry which means walking around the courtyard into the area where you can see underneath to older parts of the castle. Other parts are closed off ie the church, some of the towers and the dungeon area unless you do a tour. It is also closed on Sundays FYI. Staff here are not the friendliest and basically lost interest when you said you didn't want to do a tour.

It is worth a look for E6. For diehard castle fans pay extra. I spent about 45minutes here.

**There is stop for the Hop On and Off Bus just out the front.

We arrived and were amazed by the size of the castle. While we approached from the side, we could see it was massive but relatively plain...then we rounded the corner and it has that amazingly beautiful and ornate double arched entrance! Breathtaking!

...excited, we paid our entrance fee and then added the audio tour tablets for an additional fee. We entered the castle and the excitement began to fade. The audio tablets had a very difficult time connecting to the different points and the audio was inconsistent - the plug where the earphones connect is terribly worn out. Also the information in the audio is quite limited. For example; there is an ornate set of brass doors with cannonball holes in them - WHY?! What happened?!

While mildly interesting, I would have been happier in the end to keep the entrance fees in my pocket and stop at the front door. It is the best part of the castle.

We really enjoyed our tour of the castle - our guide was knowledgable and clearly cared deeply about the history of the castle and the region. As a tourist attraction, it is hard to recommend, though: the museum is eminently missable (unless you're a Neapolitan art super-fan), and there's not a whole lot else to see here. Visitors with mobility difficulties should probably be aware that the lift is broken, and has apparently been so for some time. We visited on a day when the Hall of the Barons was open, and were pleased to have seen it.

Overall, the property needs some serious investment into the visitor experience if it wants to be a leading attraction.

My girlfriend and I visited the castle on our last day in Napoli. You can buy 6 euro ticket to see some boring paintings or you can buy 16 euro tickets that include a guide which in my opinion is overpriced. The castle looks nice from the outside and you can enter some of its parts for free and that is what I would recommend for future visits. The only impressive thing was the glass floor with roman ruins under it.

We tried and failed to gain entry to the Castel Nuovo three times. First, the ticket office was unaccountably "chiuso" (a depressingly familiar word for visitors to Italy), then we were told we needed a reservation, and thirdly we couldn't get the QR code for reservations to work.

Finally, we got in and took the tour along with a group of other vistors (at €10 per person). None of the lifts were wrorking, so it was a long climb up five or six flights of stairs to the battlements, which proved to be very challenging for some of our fellow-travellers.

The finest room in the castle, a triple-height cube known as the Hall of the Barons, was poorly lit and largely occupied by tiered seating in municipal chamber style, which does it no justice at all. The dungeons are also disappointing, though the civic museum on two floors is worth visiting. All in all, the way this place is presented and run is a disgrace to the city of Naples, and to Italy.

Very expensive for what you get (16 euros to get into the castle and same price to get into Pompei 🤯)
The tour guide was friendly but the rest of the staff where extremely unwelcoming and unprofessional.
A very basic castle with neglected interior and basically nothing impressive. Even the view from the top (that you have to walk up because the elevator is broken) is not impressive at all. I would never recommend visiting this castle since Naples has so many other attractions. Don't waste your time. It's terrible.

We loved this place, but wouldn't of without a guide. If you dont have a guide you wander round and its relatively interesting but pay for the guide and you don hard hats and go under the floors at all different levels to see the ruins and foundations whilst being regaled with grusome stories of days gone by.
Fantastic afternoon, brilliant guides!

The building is massive and impressive, but, barely worth the money.
Unlike other reviewers, I enjoyed the art in the Civic Museum that is part of the basic admission. There isn't any great art there, but the paintings depict normal people going about normal life in Napoli in the 19th and early 20th century. The sort of thing you would expect to find in a City Hall somewhere.

The extra-cost tour of the King's apartments and such is a total waste of money. The first 45 minutes of the tour focus on the elements you can see with the less expensive ticket. I agree with most that you're money is better spent on a nice lunch. Try the fried pizza!

It was almost as if we had a private visit to this beautiful castle. Came to visit it after lunch on a Wednesday and there was nobody. You still have to book the tickets online due to the new pandemic rules, but we did it at the entrance and there was no problem. The castle was completed in 1284 and was called “new castle” because it was new compared to the other two in Naples. The arch in the middle was added in 1470. Truly impressive!!! Inside the castle you can visit the hall of the barons, see the Roman ruins underneath the glass and see the chapel. When we came, there was an amazing exhibition of two modern artists. It was called Spiritus Mundi - a wonderful surprise! Upstairs in the castle there are various artworks including paintings and sculptures. My favorite part was the collection of the 20th century!
Castel Nuovo was a royal seat for kings of Naples, Aragon and Spain until 1815. In the 14th century this place was hosting numerous remarkable personalities, such as Petrarch, Giotto and many others. Now, I think, you can also visit it for some performances as we saw a stage being built in the middle of the courtyard.
