Matt Damon and Casey Affleck crack each other up as they film thrilling heist scene for upcoming film The Instigators

Matt Damon, 52, and Casey Affleck, 47,  have returned to their hometown of Boston to film their upcoming movie The Instigators.

And the actors looked like they were having a blast as they filmed a dramatic heist scene on Friday.

The acclaimed actors, who play thieves, were dressed for the part in all black clothing and beanies as they filmed their hijacking of an armored truck.

The Instigators is about 'two thieves who must go on the run with the help of one of their therapists after a robbery goes awry,' according to Deadline.

The Bourne Identity's director Doug Liman helms the Apple Original Film.

The film also stars Hong Chau, who was nominated for Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for The Whale, and Richard Jewell star Paul Walter Hauser.

Earlier this week, the actors were snapped filming another scene where they appeared to be stealing some firefighter gear from the station, or possibly impersonating firefighters.

Both appeared to have soot and dirt caked on their faces, indicating that their character had been through quite an ordeal.

Matt looked determined as he carried a firefighter's uniform from one of the parked trucks in the station, while Casey was just behind him pulling another outfit out of the open door.

Although Matt's friendship with Casey's brother Ben is better known, he and the younger sibling have appeared together in almost as many films over the years.

The were both part of the eponymous thieving ensembles in Oceans Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen, though Matt played a more prominent role along with George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

Their next collaboration will be in Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film Oppenheimer, about the creation of the atomic bomb.

They previously played dual leads in the 2002 drama Gerry, which was directed by their Good Will Hunting director Gus Van Sant, who co-wrote the film with the two stars.

And that's not the only filmmaking reunion the Interstellar star has had lately.

He and his Good Will Hunting co-star and co-writer - and Casey's older brother - Ben Affleck made the Michael Jordan biopic Air together.

And Ben loved working with his old friend again.

Ben - who directed the movie and also plays the part of Phil Knight, the co-founder of Nike - told IndieWire: 'I love and trust Matt so much, and it was so lovely to be working together.'

'It was kind of like a feeling of, I want the other actors to feel [this too].

'Like, "Come on, it's all good, I love actors, I love you, you're going to be OK, everyone, take as much time as you want, do what you need to do and be respected, and to kind of project that energy."'

Ben and Matt shot to international prominence in 1997, when they co-wrote the Academy Award-winning 'Good Will Hunting'.
