Dawn S I thought this was a brilliant thought provoking movie. How did we as parents learn to bring up our children and is it the right way. Who is right and who is wrong? What skill sets do we need in society to make us the perfect human being? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/08/24 Full Review Carol W I have watched it twice now. I didn't realise I had till half way through the second time around. 🤪 It reminded me so much of couples, families I used to know in both the Pacific Northwest and south western areas of Australia who in the 1970s lived off the grid. This family's parents were born later though in the mid 1970s. It's hard to parent and homeschool. Most of the families I knew smoked too much weed to do anything near the excellent job this guy did. There's a lesson for all modern parents these days in this though. Nature physical fitness and reading books are amazing educational tools. Thought the cremation was a bit over the top though. Needed to be a bigger fire and would be quite strong smelling for the kids to handle. However a good movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Joan C Una película que hurga en tus sentimientos y te invita a reflexionar acerca de todo lo que nos rodea. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/24 Full Review Mark M Thought it very sweet and touching. Great performance by the entire cast. Bravo. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review KB B This movie was really disturbing how this father treated his children. I can't believe there are any psychos out there that would treat their family like that but I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few. Captain Moron is more like it. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/03/24 Full Review Thulani M A very interesting spin on parenting, humanizing and simplifying very complex feelings, fears and emotions that many people feel especially around raising children in the 21st century. The pacing was a little long at certain parts but the story was full of emotion and genuinely earned soft moments. Highly recommend. Karen Han CutPrintFilm While the spirit of the movie is admirable, the constant tirades by the Cash family against typical society grow repetitive and lose their impact as a result, even as a device to show the difficulties in processing grief. Rated: 5/10 Dec 8, 2017 Full Review Tara Brady Irish Times Fantastic, indeed. Rated: 4/5 Dec 28, 2016 Full Review Danny Leigh Financial Times There are many tonal plates being spun here; the lack of a deafening crash is impressive. It comes down, you suspect, to the film's embrace of its own contradictions. Rated: 4/5 Dec 28, 2016 Full Review Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... a road movie, a family drama, a tale of loss, and a loving portrait of an alternative family that is prepared to face everything but the modern world. Sep 8, 2023 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Matt Ross’s story of this off-the-grid family clashing with the outside world naturally has its funny moments. But it’s also a film filled with genuine feeling.
