How did the general public feel about the canonisation of the Romanovs? : r/AskARussianSkip to main content
It's a very niche question - most of the general public probably don't even know (or if they knew when it was the news on TV - they don't remember now) about it.
No offends, but i don't think non-niche questions can ever expire. It just takes more time to come up with it. Don't get me wrong, however. Everything is fine with your question. I will now go and take a sleep.
The Russian Orthodox Church recognized them as "passion-bearers", and earlier the Russian Orthodox Church abroad recognized them as "martyrs". They are neither one nor the other, and they certainly did not die for Christ.
In general, Christians should not read the biographies of their saints, and even more so they should not read the Bible in order not to be disappointed)))

All: Don't give a fu.... For me, it's stupid Idea. I can understand why Peter the Great did well, but why canonize Nicholas 2? for being a rag, or because he loved his family? in the country, millions of people were dying of hunger/war, why don’t we canonize them?
As far as I know, they were not recognized as saints. Just dying isn't enough for that. It is necessary to perform at least a couple of miracles. Nicholas II was recognized as a passion-bearer, because they killed him because he was a tsar, and the church anointed him on the throne, therefore he suffered for his faith. The fact that he had abdicated from the throne for more than six months and was a simple layman apparently did not particularly bother the church. As far as I know, the recognition of Nicholas II as a passion-bearer was one of the conditions for the unification of the Russian Orthodox Church and its emigrant part that broke off in 1920.
the priests who remained in Russia did not see the point of canonizing this idiot, but the priests who left the country and their current followers - "tsarebozhniki" - see in him the messiah, who is a cosplay of Jesus and in general is his analogue. Officially, Nicholas 2 is a passion-bearer, but, in my opinion, he does not deserve it either
I found it weird. I remember when it was reported. The story was positive. I don't remember seeing any polls on that. Nicholas II has a dubious reputation. Nothing good was written about him during Soviet years. After that, there were positive accounts, but not everyone agreed with them.

To put it bluntly, the appearance of Nikolashka Bloody on the iconostases did not add to the popularity of the church. People have not forgotten anything.
I am negative. None of this family was a saint. No one stood out for kindness or mercy. Nicholas bore hundreds of thousands of deaths. The canonization of Nicholas II is a spit on God.
Nicholas II is despised by the absolute majority of the Russians who cared to hear something about him. Weak (that's the biggest sin in Russia), out of touch with reality and plain stupid - he's the one who lost Old Mother Russia.
No one (except people commited to church - and they are probably less than 1%) knows what a canonisation is. For most it's some political trick played by the greedy Orthodox Church for some gain.
One radical group of Orthodox cranks organized actions and demonstrations for the canonization of the Romanovs. The ROC got tired of their antics and just gave them what they wanted. Nicholas ll was ranked among the saints of some low rank there. Journalists made a whole tragedy out of it, and the opponents of the ROC just went crazy, constantly creating infopods. In general, in short, the ROC gave the crying child a candy so that he would shut up and not shame the ROC in front of other adults :)))
As for me: I don't care. I have nothing to do with the ROC, and what they do is their business.
we have a little icon of them, my husband likes it because there's not many icons of couples and familys. he says it shows that married can still become saints and not just monks or nuns and that they represent family ideals. i think it's a very pretty one.
it was made out of tradition just as many things here. They were not only killed, they were main imperial family, thats probably the reason. I don't mind it anyway. They are part of history now.

A lot of questions on this sub are niche, sadly.
What's wrong with niche questions? You'd think that all the more common ones have been asked a thousand times by now on this subreddit.

I've meant not your question - but the issue of canonization itself.
The general public doesn’t care.
For me It’s still weird to see an icon with them on it though.
I thought they were shot with guns, not canons.
I knew somebody was going to make this joke, so I had to double check before posting that I hadn't written "cannonisation" by accident.
I care more about pharaoh mummies.
A purely political decision. He ruined the state, renounced the throne, did not save his family. There are not enough achievements for holiness.

So it seems to me that they did not die for Christ.
An outdated historical atavism "declared" something about a dead, overthrown, and forgotten dynasty. Who cares.

This sub is not representative of whole Russia

A passion-bearer is one of many types of saints...
He didn't die for his faith and not because of his faith, but who cares at all...

Who cares about that religious things?

They seem to have forgotten everything.

Shows what a scam the church is. Nicky was probably the worst leader of russia ever. Almost destroyed the country.
I'm an agnostic so I don't care about religion while it doesn't bother me.
