Sharee Williams Extra Credit Call Me Crazy Call Me Crazy is a movie composed of several sub-movies or shorts. Each short contains a case the depicts a person who is struggling with a mental illness, which drastically effects the way the sufferer and their familyā€™s lives in negative ways. Lucy The first short is about a girl name Lucy. Lucy is a law student who has a manic episode while studying in the library. As a result, Lucy was admitted into an in- patient facility to help her to manage her symptoms. Some of her symptoms include having hallucinations, delusions, and being suicidal. While in the facility, her therapist was apple to convince Lucy to return to law school was she becomes released from the facility. At first, Lucy didnā€™t believe that becoming a lawyer with likely until she decided to use her own personal experience to help those who suffer with mental disorders. Eventually once Lucy was released from in-patient care unit,
other than the stress of completing her education, Lucy had to mend the family relationships that were strained due to her symptoms affected her loved ones. Gracie The next story is about the development of a young girl (Gracie) as she tries to navigate the pressures of growing up while having a mother who is bipolar. Some of the symptoms that Gracieā€™s mother displays are, eliminated moods, deep depressions and suicidal. Due to her motherā€™s condition, Gracie would have to take
on a parental role in order to care for her mother. For example, when Gracieā€™s mother went through her depressive low stage of Bipolar, she would often refuse to leave her bed or eat. Additionally, when her mother was in very high moods, she would need to maintain her motherā€™s safety. Eventually Sarah was able to convince her mother to admit herself into inpatient care while Sarah went off to college.I believe that Gracieā€™s mother has Bipolar I due to the fact that her mania significantly impaired her life to the point that she needed to be hospitalized. Due to the limited amount of information it is difficult to determine if there are specifies that need to be added. Eddie The Eddie short depicts a male who suffers from depression. His symptoms include both a depressed mood, loss of interest in previous enjoyable activities, fatigue and suicidal ideations. Some examples of these behaviors are displayed by his lack of enjoyment within his profession as a comedian, his resistance to spending time with his wife, friends, and dog and his thoughts on how he would carryout his own suicide. Instead Eddie prefers to spend time alone in his bed. Overall, I would diagnosis Eddie with Major Depressive Disorder due to the fact that I am uncertain about the timeframe of his symptoms. However, if he has been experiencing these symptoms for 2 years, he would have Persistent Depressive Disorder. Maggie The last story is about a woman named Maggie who has returned from the armed
services. While in the armed services, Maggie was sexually assaulted multiple times by her commanding officer and family friend. As a result of her trauma, Maggie experiences, distressing memories, dreams, and flashbacks. Furthermore, after the death of her rapist, Maggie did her best to avoid attending his funeral. However, her father forced Maggie to attend the funeral by pulling her from the car, which resulted in her experiencing enuresis.Consequent, Maggie suffers from PTSD. In conclusion, I felt conflicted while watching this movie. On the one hand, this was overall a good film. I felt engaged the entire time and it helps me to understand further how metal illness effects people. On the other hand, I also had to witness the pain that can occur to both that person and their supports when they have a mental illness. While I was engaged, I admit that it can be very difficult to watch this part.
