   Born in Coucy-le-Château, César de Bourbon, duke de Vendôme was the natural son of King henry IV and Gabrielle d'estrées. He joined in the conspiracies of the nobility during the reign of louis x III and was implicated in the Chalais plot against Cardinal Richelieu. Remaining loyal during the fronde,he became tutor to the duke of Burgundy (1651). His youngest son was François de bourbon-vendôme, duke de beaufort.
