Buxton Crescent Heritage Experience

Explore the history behind one of Buxton’s most iconic buildings, the Grade I-listed, Georgian Crescent.

Set in nine rooms within the Crescent itself, this new heritage experience, opened in October 2020, reveals the story of this special spa town, the building’s remarkable restoration and Buxton’s famous water. The year-round, all-weather attraction is the perfect starting point for anyone visiting or learning about Buxton.

The experience lasts just over an hour and is fully accessible. Entry by guided tour or general admission.

Tickets are available from the Buxton Crescent Experience website and can be redeemed at the Buxton Visitor Centre in the Pump Room 10-15 minutes prior to the start-time.

About Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust

The Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust was launched in a celebratory event in the recently-restored, Grade II Victorian Pump Room on Tuesday 20 June 2017 with the Trust’s Patron, the Duke of Devonshire.

The Trust was established to: preserve the stunning Crescent and surrounding spa buildings for future generations; create an inspiring visitor experience in The Pump Room and suite of rooms in The Crescent; manage the visitor attractions focusing on the town’s unique spa heritage; and develop a year-round programme of events in the Assembly Room. The Visitor Experience and year round programme of events in the Assembly Rooms will allow the community and visitors to ‘step’ into the history of the Crescent and Pump Rooms and learn about the fascinating stories of our spa heritage, the Crescent and its restoration, the town and the characters that made it all happen. The Experience will complement Buxton’s and the area’s other attractions. It is led by Derbyshire-born, tourism expert and Visit England’s former Chief Executive, James Berresford. In September 2018, Buxton Crescent Heritage Trust announced a major partnership agreement with Nestlé Waters UK, producers of Buxton Natural Mineral Water, which will see them work together on the development of the innovative visitor experience, due to open in the Crescent in 2019/2020. Other partners include the Heritage Lottery Fund, Derbyshire County Council, High Peak Borough Council, D2N2 and an exciting partnership with the University of Derby

As a charitable organisation, The Trust received start-up and development funding from The Heritage Lottery Fund, High Peak Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council, but does not receive regular funding. Trustees represent the varied aspects of the scheme including heritage and architecture, tourism and cultural services, skills and training and local business and are people who are passionate about the Crescent, its heritage and the town.

The Friends of Buxton Crescent & Thermal Spa support the Trust and will help deliver their aims. Benefits of membership include invitations to events in The Pump Room, an opportunity to get involved with the project and events and discounts and offers for the Visitor Experience. Find out more information on how to become a Friend on the Trust’s website.
