Lovely walk around the gardens, took about an hour or so. Two issues - it was hellishly windy, and it was the wrong season for rhododendrons, so no flowers!
Having said that, it was still a lovely walk and the Japanese garden was stunning.
There were a few lakes there and we just saw (literally) the tail end of a platypus!
Enjoyable - but suggest a visit is timed for flowering season, when I am sure it is spectacular!

WOW how amazing is this “Free” (donation) event - run by volunteers who are passionate about Penguins. We saw Penguins come out hiding & even some come in from the Ocean & climb up the rocks, under the natural habitat & up to view area! A must for anyone & everyone. I had no idea this was even available until I saw it on Facebook Travelling Tasmania… Great advise - don’t worry about booking a tour Bicheno visit the Penguins in Burnie…. We also stayed Somerset Caravan Park - less then 5 minutes drive away

We had a wonderful dining experience at Hellyers restaurant.

We have been to Hellyers several times over the years when visiting Tasmania for whisky tasting only. We were so pleased we dined as the food was perfect. The sherry whisky cured ocean trout has heavenly, as was the whisky marinated chicken salad. Wouldn't mind the recipes!!!

The menu is clearly very well thought out, we will certainly be back and will not hesitate to share our experience to ensure others stay on for lunch.

Certainly was excellent value. We will be back, soon I hope.

Lovely peaceful water falls with a running creek walk from the picnic facilities to the falls. Very interesting rock formations.

Google states that the reserve closes at 5:30pm, however there was a sign that said it closes at sunset which gave us more time than we thought. Plenty of car parking spaces. Toilets and picnic spots available. The reserve itself is quiet and peaceful. We didn’t see any platypus, nevertheless, enjoyed a walk.

We called into this Museum and we were delighted with what we saw, and that was a replica of part of early Burnie life. Fascinating !!

If you are in Burnie, give yourself an opportunity to see something out of the past and what life must have been like 120 plus years ago.

    Highly Recommended.

Nestled within a short drive from the heart of Burnie, Tasmania, lies a verdant oasis that captures the essence of tranquility and natural beauty. Burnie Park, a picturesque expanse of rolling green hills, is a tapestry of vibrant flora, including a myriad of tree species, a blooming rose garden, and the vivid hues of rhododendrons. The park's heart beats with the rhythm of Oldaker Falls, cascading into a serene pond where ducks glide effortlessly across the water's surface.
As you wander along the walking trails, the gentle rustle of leaves and the soft chirping of birds accompany your every step, creating a symphony of nature's melodies. The park's music shell stands as a testament to community spirit, hosting events that bring together the sounds of laughter and music under the open sky.
Burnie Park is not just a feast for the eyes but also a haven for the soul. It's a place where memories are made, whether it's a family picnic by the barbecues, children's laughter echoing from the playgrounds, or a moment of reflection at the memorial cenotaph. With facilities accessible to all, including the Liberty Swing, the park ensures that beauty knows no bounds.
This gem of Tasmania is a reminder of the simple joys that life offers—a breath of fresh air, a splash of colour, and the warmth of the community. Burnie Park is more than just a park; it's a celebration of life, nature, and the enduring beauty that surrounds us.

I have to admit I struggled to locate the parking for this on my GPS and found street parking instead and then walked to the gallery. Everything is set up for Covid - you sign in, sanitise and you are free to wander through. The gallery is not a big gallery but I found the artwork inside intriguing. Some of it I really enjoyed ... other pieces made me wonder how the artist thinks. THAT is what I love about art... the differences, the nuances, the uncertainty.

There are items for sale in the entry area.

The War Memorial is but one of a series of memorials in Burnie Park that commemorate service personnel that gave their lives in various conflicts. The War Memorial was dedicated in 1924 in recognition of those from the district who died in service or were killed on the battlefield during WW1. It is an inscribed granite obelisk .Nearby is the 100 Years of ANZAC Memorial, two winged walls commemorating the landings at Gallipoli and dedicated in 2015. The walls also acknowledge past and future conflicts which are not recognised on the Cenotaph. A plaque already affixed is dedicated to Corporal Cameron Baird of Burnie who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2013. He was the 100th Australian to be awarded a Victoria Cross . A ground level inscribed granite slab also r4ecognises his bravery. The 75th Anniversary of Remembrance Day plaque was dedicated in 2015. The National Service Memorial is dedicated to the 287,000men who undertook National Service 1951 - 1972. An obelisk, Others War Memorial, commemorates those who served in WW11, Korean War, Vietnam War, Malayan Emergency and Indonesian Confrontation and dedicated in 2014
