Buckingham Palace is looking to recruit a new member of staff to tackle the royals' bulging post bags.

The palace posted a job advert on LinkedIn for a 'Head of Correspondence' for King Charles, Queen Consort Camilla and the Prince and Princess of Wales who will  'report to the director of operations'.

Within a few hours of the ad going live, a notice was posted on the description saying, 'we are no longer accepting applications', which could mean there's already been a flood of applications.

The advert said 'Our Correspondence team manages correspondence to The King, The Queen Consort and The Prince and Princess of Wales'

The salary is £55,000 - £60,000 per annum with 37.5 hours a week and the work will take place in the private secretary's office at Buckingham Palace, Monday to Friday.

The job description states that 'no two days are the same' and the successful candidate will have to 'reach to make a genuine impact at the heart of this world-famous institution'.

If successful, the candidate will have to manage the 'high volume of mail' coming in to the royal household - which would require 'thoughtful and sensitive handling'.

Along with penning 'standard replies' to birthday and wedding anniversary well-wishers, the household are looking for someone who can write 'individually crafted responses' too.

The Queen - who died in September - used to receive about 200 letters per day, which amassed to over 70,000 per year.

In October, the palace was also advertising for the position, but since the advert has been re-posted it could mean that they have not yet found a suitable candidate.

The advert said: 'It's feeling inspired to deliver to the very highest standards. And it's joining the professional business behind the monarchy. This is what makes a career with the Royal Household so special.

'Our Correspondence team manages correspondence to The King, The Queen Consort and The Prince and Princess of Wales. They manage a high volume of mail all of which requires thoughtful and sensitive handling, whether by standard replies or individually crafted responses.

'Reporting to the Director of Operations, you'll provide strategic leadership for the correspondence function, ensuring that robust plans are in place for major events and strategic issues are managed effectively.

On top of their first-class letter writing skills, the new Head of Correspondence will also need to have 'strong people management skills' and act as a deputy for the Private Secretary on occasion.

'Bringing strong people management skills and a desire to maintain rigorous standards, you'll ensure that the team is well-run, motivated and delivering to agreed quality and timescales. In all that you do, you will maintain a first-class correspondence function.'

'Acting as the main point of contact for the Correspondence Unit, you will deputise for the Director of PSO on relevant matters and work closely with colleagues to respond to changes in the wider correspondence ecosystem.

'No two days will be the same. This is an exciting time to join us as you will lead on the implementation and use of a new case management system, devising suitable KPIs and driving the continuous improvement of the function.

'And as you use data to inform your team’s activity, you'll have the reach to make a genuine impact at the heart of this world-famous institution.'

Advertisers said that the successful candidate will work in 'magnificent' historic surroundings.

The Royal Household LinkedIn page said: 'With the Royal Household, everyday jobs become exceptional.

'This is because, whatever their role and whichever department they’re in, our people are part of something remarkable. They provide invaluable support to The Royal Family, enabling them to fulfil their duties and serve the nation.

'And, working in magnificent and historic surroundings, they’re inspired to deliver to a higher standard.'
