Bryn Mawr College Reviews

Bryn Mawr is in a quiet suburban area 20 minutes from Philadelphia by train. On campus, there is a great focus on academics and community activities. Most students are either international or from the East Coast. Most professors are good speakers and happy to connect with or support students during office hours. Class sizes are usually small (8-10 students per professor) at higher levels. Due to an agreement with neighboring schools, many students take classes at nearby Haverford College, and can even double major. Less take classes at Swarthmore and UPenn.
Academically exciting, good opportunities, easy to have close relationships to professors, beautiful campus. Can be insular/exclusionary.
Bryn Mawr is incredible! I cannot recommend attending enough. The campus is beautiful, the classes engaging, and the students friendly.
I really like Bryn Mawr as a college. The community is very immersive and feels pretty welcoming. The one on one time with the teachers is amazing
Beautiful campus. Amazing upperclassmen and professors. Dorms are pretty comfy as well. Food is relatively good!
It was an excellent learning environment. The small classes, great engagement with the faculty, and rigorous academics. The ability to take classes at UPenn, Haverford, and Swarthmore was fabulous and expanded my exposure to a number of fields of study. I loved the traditions that the school has and its self-governance. It's easy to get involved with many organizations both at Bryn Mawr and Haverford. Easy access to Philadelphia was awesome. Dorms and food were great. My four years prepared me well for the real world and I have a job secured in my area of study a month prior to graduation.
Despite having a social honor code, it seems like it is very one-sided. Plenty of students are extremely hateful towards others but because they are liberal-leaning, they do not have any repercussions and their actions are even praised by other students. Bryn Mawr is NOT an accepting place. If you do not agree with what the general student body thinks, then you will be shunned and excluded. Many students here are simply bullies who will not even listen to opposing views. It is not all students, but it seems to be the loudest ones. In terms of academics, there are a lot of great professors. Some expect too much, especially the intro class professors, so prepare to work hard. Generally, classes are unnecessarily difficult and there is a lack of support. This is very challenging but if handled correctly you will come out of it a better student. For me, I had to sacrifice my mental health at times. Really look into all aspects of this school before coming here. Good luck!
Bryn Mawr College was a great home for me. Professors and staff care about students and student needs. I loved the self-governance aspect of the school where students got to make decisions concerning how the institution is run. I loved the sense of community, the beauty of the campus, and the skills I received to thrive beyond the walls of Bryn Mawr!
I love the women's and gender minority empowerment. I love the small class sizes and feeling connected to professors. The campus is beautiful and the consortium with Haverford, Swarthmore, and UPenn is great.
Bryn Mawr College is a truly magical school and I could not be more happy to attend. Campus and academics are everything I could hope for. Please consider applying or transferring!
High quality education with a beautiful campus. Staff are supportive and dedicated to the success of students. Their various student support programs are evidence of this.
Bryn Mawr College is such a special, unique place. The biggest thing that I love about BMC is the professors. They truly care about your wellbeing and want you to succeed, rather than just focusing on grades/stats.
Very little support on campus. If you are at all struggling, or not immediately finding your way, don't expect to find help from admin or anybody for that matter. Handled covid very poorly, making kids choose to be safe and healthy or their mental health. Professors were very smart and supportive to students, but living on campus is very isolating and difficult.
It feels like living in Hogwarts and home at the same time. I love how people are nice and supportive. It has the best traditions (one of my reason to apply here) and dining halls always come out with great ideas for making the experience great. Would 100% recommend it!
Bryn Mawr College is my second home. They have really beautiful campus and best classmates and professor.
Bryn Mawr is a very unique place to live and learn. It's a beautiful campus with a strong sense of community. All of my professors were experts in their fields and approached teaching with a kind of care, personality, and individualization that is not common in many bigger schools. The academics are great, but the social atmosphere of the school can be stifling at times.
Bryn Mawr College prepared me for life after college. Through close mentorship with professors and help from our fellowship advisor, I graduated BMC with both Fulbright and Boren scholarships. Wherever I end up next, I know I have the support and understanding of lifelong friends, fellow alums, and every department. You get as much support as you need (for the rest of your life) without it being overbearing -- even if you don't ask. While no institution is perfect, Bryn Mawr was perfect for me.
Growing up in a patriarchal society, I knew I wanted to experience college at a place where women had the opportunity to be leaders and help each other create personal pathways to success. I was intrigued at the concept of focusing on the "presence of women" and not the "absence of men". Like any other college, it has its fair share of opportunities to better itself, however, I have been able to grow both academically and emotionally. The small classroom environments have helped create personalized relationships with professors. The diversity gives you the opportunity to have friends that come from various different backgrounds and cultures. With time, I was also able to find people with similar religious beliefs and had a very memorable Ramadan my freshman year of college. Not to mention, the open space on campus along with a strong unity amongst students, Bryn Mawr felt like home almost immediately. I could not have asked for a better fit.
The professors were very friendly and I loved the school academically. The staff really wanted everyone to succeed.
While I love the friends that I made, the school presents itself falsely. Open conversations are not an aspect of this campus nor is its relationship to schools in the area as easily accessible. The health services were severely lacking during my time on campus as well.
It's a great school, but definitely not for everyone.

I love the traditions at Bryn Mawr! By participating in them, you will feel incredibly at home and like you belong and are loved. Additionally, by going to Bryn Mawr, you are able to take classes at Haverford College, Swarthmore College, and the University of Pennsylvania which is an incredible opportunity to academically grow.
