A grandiose confection it is modelled on the 14th century Scaliger Tombs in Verona. This on the express orders of the Duke.
It is highly decorative and at the corners has sculptures of both his father and grandfather as well as other ancestors.
Interesting to learn that the Duke bequeathed his full estate to Geneva on the promise that the monument be built.
It was duly done and inaugurated in 1879, six years after his death.

Nice to know the history of this monument. Near major sights in Geneva as well . Great opportunity for picture taking and just observing.

The Brunswick Monument is a is a neo-Gothic style mausoleum built in 1879 in Geneva to commemorate the life of Charles II, Duke of Brunswick.
It's beautiful and awesome, located near the Lake of Geneva where you can also find the Flower Clock, the Jet d'Eau, the Ferris Wheel and the pier where you can cruise the lake.

Beautiful building with great detail. Lovely spot just beside the waterfront. We had lunch right next to it, overlooking the building and lake Geneva

This monument of the Duke of Brunswick is quite the site and a beautiful spot indeed. It is very interesting that the Duke is depicted looking away from the Lake instead of toward it.

This monument is outstanding, and has a very neat history behind it (including why the Duke is not turned around, and not facing Mont Blanc).

We walked by the Brunswick Monument as we were enjoying a stroll along the shore of Lake Geneva. There's a small park, and the monument itself was interesting to look at. It was worth a stop when we were walking by, although not really something I'd go out of my way to see.

Quaint little garden with posh buildings around it housing this monument to some old geezer who probably spent his money on gambling or women.
Breaks up the concrete.

This Brunswick monument is situated in a small park opposite the lake shore. Worth taking a look at it on your way to walk along the lake shore. Was clean and well maintained
