      Critics Consensus

Carrey is hilarious in the slapstick scenes, but Bruce Almighty gets bogged down in treacle.

Breno G Special Effects: 0,0/Sound Effects: 0,5/Acting: 0,5/Story: 0,5 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/24 Full Review Kristian M Jim carrey is the best comedian ever. I was watching this in Religious Education and he made my lesson 100 times better 👊🫡 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/24 Full Review Theo S Definitely one of Jim Carey's stranger movies but equally as likable for me. Although it had some unfunny or cringeworthy scenes it makes up for with several hilarious scenes throughout. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Ed OMG and actually good Christian movie? Well technically interfaith, there's no mention of Jesus, but it does reference Moses parting the Red Sea. It does a good job of answering the question, "If God is all powerful, why do humans experience misery." And the answer I came to from this movie is so that we could grow. My one complaint is that Bruce should not have stayed with Grace, the love interest. It needs to be shown that there are consequences and that some people cannot change, no matter how hard you try , and it's best to cut off a toxic relationship. Most people don't have the benefit of God and a near death experience. Other than that, the message was really good - Wisdom as old as time, be careful what you wish for. I was recommended to watch this movie in a review of Disney's botched "Wish" movie. Contrary to what some other reviews said, I did find it pretty funny and despite having a clear moral, it wasn't too heavy-handed. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/12/24 Full Review Jay O Always a fun movie. Jim Carrey and Steve Carell are hilarious as usual. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/29/23 Full Review Lithemba M It has Jim Carrey and Morgan Freeman in it, what's not to love? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Alexander Walker London Evening Standard As entertainment, it gives good value: it's light, quick and diverting. Morgan Freeman, predictably, gives it heart, gravitas and the appearance of wisdom; but it's Carrey who keeps all the balls in the air with refined mania. Jan 9, 2018 Full Review Barbara Ellen Times (UK) There are enough goofball touches in Bruce Almighty to carry the movie to a certain extent... However, when the time comes for Bruce to "share and learn", the effect is trite and embarrassing. Jan 3, 2018 Full Review Nell Minow Common Sense Media Happily deranged comedy has typical Carrey humor. Rated: 3/5 Dec 22, 2010 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com It's a nice return to comedy for Carrey. Rated: 3.0/4.0 Sep 4, 2020 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News While Carrey's antics are good for some laughs, the film ultimately falls apart, thanks to a heavy-handed screenplay with enough sugar and sweetness to induce a diabetic coma. Nov 15, 2019 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens Although Carrey's built-in audience base will undoubtedly be thanking The Almighty this weekend for Bruce Almighty, with so many other films out there right now, this one can be put on the back burner.
