After seeing other reviews we had to try this place whilst staying in Geneva, the restaurant is located in a quieter area of the city. We made no reservation as it was a weekday and didn't think we needed to, most of the tables were...reserved but luckily we managed to get in. Lovely host to take our coats and waiter was very friendly. He explained everything to us and made us feel very welcome. We had the onion soup and terrine to start, the onion soup was delicious and the best I have had. For main we opted for the chateaubriand which is for 2 persons, very generous portions served with vegetables and potato gratin. Meat was more than enough for 2. Wine was lovely, we only had it served by the glass and it was excellent quality. Decor in restaurant is very quaint and old, you feel like you are stepping back a few decades.More

After reading the reviews we ask our concierge to book a table absolutely perfect. A friendly welcome a nice table at the end of the restaurant an English menu and my questions about the different cuts of steak answered without a problem. My wife had...the medallion fillets & I had the tenderloin cooked to perfection and so tasty. I had a rum barba for dessert wow plenty of rum over it . Again coffee excellent. Yes not a cheap meal but it’s Geneva . The service is so good , food excellent what more could you want Just don’t be put off by the exterior or the street once inside the experience begins.More

Fantastic experience! Very nice food, well prepared, great team. We felt like home. Under current situation with covid-19, all the safety protocols were in place, so we could enjoy a beautiful dinner without having to worry about our well being

The food was above excellent and the service from the staff l would say was second to none. Bistrot Du Boeuf Rouge has been a family owned and operated restaurant for 38 years with the second generation working alongside employees who have stayed with the...restaurant for 20 years which is a testament to how this family run business values their staff. Covid was tough on the restaurant industry in Switzerland when the government shut down pretty much everything. Still even with such a struggle the owner and his family found a way to keep their employees paid which was not easy. I cannot say how highly l recommend this restaurant due not only to its commitment to outstanding food quality and just an overall commitment to both its customers and Staff. We have one more day in Geneva and my last evening meal here will be spent at the Bistrot Du Boeuf Rouge. Thank you Pascal and to Carlos whom without you l would never have found the COOP.More

We ate here our last night in Geneva. Wonderful meal from start to finish! Food was excellent and service warm and wonderful. We both had beef, sirloin with bourdeleis sauce and the top sirloin with butter. We start with a bottle of wine, caprese salad...and their house made bread, and finished with coffee and dessert. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. I would definitely go back. Others must agree as the place was full even early on a week night.More

Food and service were exemplary- best gratin I’ve had and we’ve been bumming around Europe for three weeks now. They’ve earned their reputation as a great restaurant. Not fancy or expensive, just French classics done really right. Had a bavette au poive and it was...a highlight of the trip!More

It was extremely busy, I was on my own and was lucky enough to get a table in the corner. Food was great as was service. I decided to try something slightly different and went for the tripe sausage, it was nice but not amazing....I saw other people's food and realised I made the wrong choice! Would go again.More

I am baffled. I have been working in Geneva for decades and for some reason, I have never eaten here. I have my usual spots. I wanted something different and TA actually suggested this place as it has many times before. I finally said yes....I was shocked at how great it was. The salad was incredible, the wine selection amazing, the Beef Tornadoes with seared Foie Gras on top was out of this world. The steak was cooked perfectly and I am picky. A perfect Medium Rare. Amazing flavor, butter tender beef. Absolutely the best service as well. I told the waiter/maybe owner that I regret never having tried this place before and that I would be coming back frequently.More

Bistrot du Boeuf Rouge was so good, that me and my wife are still talking about it. It is in a grotty building and frankly, you’d walk straight passed it if you didn’t know what lies inside. A fabulous welcome - the people in front...of us were turned away as it was fully booked - and we had a table in the window. It is a fun room with charming decor. Not big, but the atmosphere was fabulous. All the staff were wonderful and gave us a great evening. We went all out - foils gras pate to start with, chateaubriand for both of us for main. All completely devine. A couple of aperitifs, two bottles of decent wine and a bill for €385. A lot of money, but a bargain for what we had. Three other tables had birthdays, so (most) of the restaurant sang ‘Bon Anniversaire’ which was very jolly. Highly recommended, but not if you want a quiet night out! LOVED IT.More

We were meant to have a late lunch, at least we thought so, but we were told that the last order is at 1.15pm. We arrived at 1.10pm and ordered promptly. Our entrées and mains were served in quick succession and our deserts followed just...as quickly. What a shame.. it was such a disappointing experience both in terms of the food and the speed of the service. There won’t be any need to go back.More

Recommended by the concierge, we were not disappointed. A lovely French restaurant walking distance from most of the hotels in Geneva (we were at the Mandarin Oriental). Everything was fresh and freshly prepared. Warm and welcoming staff. Definitely worth checking out :)

Was really looking forward to having a great experience here given the rave reviews and overall leaving slightly disappointed. Booking process, welcoming and service are all outstanding. The actual place is beautiful inside and really makes you feel as if you are in Lyon. Location...is near the Lake and all the 5 star hotels fronting it. Now the mixed feelings... Ordered the entrecôte marchand de vin with os a moelle (wine merchant entrecôte with bone marrow) avcompanied with potato gratin and green beans. The size was generous but the meat was really poor quality, tasteless and i was left with a quarter of the size on my plate as it was inedible fat. Before I was served a generously sized salad but again the vinaigrette taste was almost inexistent. Maybe I was unlucky but I cannot believe a place like this would mess up some of its offerings. Gratin was great and beans delicious but overall I leave disappointed taste wise. Had the crozes hermitage 2014 by the glass and it was very good and very well priced. The big plus is how they make you feel at home and special which saves this first experience for me. Customer service here is outstandingMore

Food seems to be reasonably priced and the place is popular so they must be doing something right, but the attitude of the staff left me puzzled. The service left a very bad taste in my mouth literally. A long hair (surely not mine since...I have very short hair) appeared in my dish and the waiter did everything to put the blame on me. Not only was there no intent to apologize and resolve the problem, but on the contrary I was informed that this particular problem had appeared for the first time ever in the annals of the storied history of the restaurant. The next question which did leave me flabbergasted was whether I wanted to continue eating the offending dish or should the plate be taken away. The dish was not replaced and when I complained to the manager - he offered to bring back the very same dish. A surrealistic experience to say the least. As mentioned, the restaurant is popular but if this attitude problem continues then surely not for long. I cannot recommend going to this restaurant in good conscience.More

Went after several attempts. The place was full. The waitress was totally unprofessional and a bit rude. The thumb in the dish, opening coop shopping bags in front of clients and making us wait for too long... The food was ok, but for the reputation...you expect much much more. A pity. Not up to its name and reported fame.More

The restaurant is very nice and well maintained. The service was at a high level, with a smile and professional. However ... the food was pretty average. Without unusual flavors. Prices are high but not excessive. But this is Geneva. Gray and expensive.

We emailed the hotel we were going to be staying at and asked them to call and book the reservation for us. I think the only way you can make a reservation directly with the restaurant is to call.
