The history of the royal weddings of the 20 century has been without controversy but wonderful from a historic weddings History. Royal weedings have shown how it can teach us just how marriages can work out and for the first time I believe divorces have been allowed. The last Royal wedding was wonderful and very historic as it showed just how much love their is between the young royals.

This is a great DVD for reliving memories of the past and a delight to just 'dip into' from time to time as all the weddings covered can be viewed on their own by using the excellent menu at the start.

Princess Patricia of Connaught (a grand-daughter of Queen Victoria who renounced her royal titles on marrying the man of her choice), was the first member of the royal family to be married at Westminster Abbey since the middle ages and so it is appropriate that newsreel of her wedding should be included. Naturally, the early weddings were filmed in Black and White and very little was allowed to be filmed before the war (the processions and balcony appearances), Princess Elizabeth's wedding in 1947 was the first to show anything from inside the Abbey (only the procession from the west end to the door) but from Princess Margaret's wedding in 1960, some of the actual ceremony was also filmed. This was the first wedding to be filmed in colour for the newsreels too.

To watch the whole DVD takes about 3 hours but is well worth doing. This is a fantastic record of both the royal and social history of this country. It would appeal to the fashion historian as well as the royalist.

I would highly recommend this DVD all and would go so far as to say that it is a must for lovers of the royal family.

I was enthralled watching royal weddings covering an 80-year period from Princess Patricia of Connaught's wedding in 1919 to Prince Edward's in 1999. There were the weddings you'd expect: Princess Elizabeth (now Queen) and Prince Philip, Princess Margaret and Antony Armstrong-Jones, Princess Anne and Mark Phillips, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson. It was the more obscure royal weddings that I found utterly enchanting. I'd never dreamed I would see video of the 1934 wedding of the Duke of Kent and Princess Marina of Greece. That was the last time a foreign princess married into the British Royal family. Princess Elizabeth made the sweetest bridesmaid. It was wonderful seeing the Royals generation after generation gathering on the balcony at Buckingham Palace after a royal wedding. This video has everything: the sumptuous gowns, the sparkling jewels, the crowds sleeping on the pavement, the coaches complete with uniformed footmen! You won't regret purchasing this historical video. I plan to watch it again and again.
