I think I figured out the origin behind Michael Altman's name.
Michael in Hebrew means "who is like God." Altman in Old German means either "old man" or "wise man." So essentially his name is just, wise old man who's so wise he's like God. Basically how he's portrayed in the games by Unitologists.
