The Cleveland Browns have drafted an interior offensive lineman for two straight drafts, including adding Zak Zinter in the 2024 NFL draft. That did not stop them, however, from adding another one in free agency directly after, signing former starting center for the Los Angeles Rams, Brian Allen.
A former fourth round pick in the 2018 NFL draft, Allen jumped into the starting lineup in his second season in the NFL. All-in-all, he started a total of 32 games in five seasons under head coach Sean McVay in Los Angeles.
Allen has familiarity with the new offensive line coach in Cleveland, Andy Dickerson when they were in Los Angeles together. That could have played a role in his landing in Cleveland.
However, with the selections of Luke Wypler and Zinter in back-to-back seasons, it is hard to find a roster spot for the veteran. He could be just a camp body, but do the Browns have a bigger role in mind for Allen?
