      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Book Club only intermittently rises to the level of its impressive veteran cast; fortunately, they're more than enough to bring pedestrian material entertainingly to life.

Susan fantastic and funny movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/20/23 Full Review Brenda The movie had great comedy and a a story to tell. Great actors! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/14/23 Full Review Katie D laugh out loud funny, beyond the trailer. I was laughing out loud, to the point of almost crying at times. Diane Keaton's physical comedy were the best parts! I was glad that there were many funny scenes beyond what was in the trailers. I did catch at least one continuity error, but I'll let it go. I just wish I had seen it in one of the theaters that serve wine... Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/15/21 Full Review Chris H A great feel good with an outstanding cast. What's not to love? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review Jeff M Sometimes I tend to take movies too seriously. I have to remind myself that a good "popcorn" movies deserves as much credit as any other type of movie. And if ever a movie succeeded on the sheer likability of its actors, this is the one. If you liked FIRST WIVES CLUB, you'll dig this one, too! Of the four storylines, I personally preferred Steenburgen's, which was reminiscent of the wonderful Meryl Streep/Tommy Lee Jones movie HOPE SPRINGS. A truly impressive group of supporting actors stand back and let the four leading ladies shine, as true gentlemen do. Maybe my expectations going in were just low, but I found this a charming, sometimes laugh out loud crowd pleaser that was one of the nicest cinematic surprises I have had recently. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review Giorgio G Normally a sequel is worse than the first movie, but oddly enough it's the other way around with Book Club. This first edition is sweet and funny, but I guess the director squeezed a bit more out of the second script. Anyway, even this one is a cute flick with loads of incredible actors. 6/10 points. Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader Stale jokes and cringe-inducing sight gags punctuate this creaky romantic comedy. Mar 16, 2020 Full Review tt stern-enzi WXIX-TV (Cincinnati, OH) Hollywood could've done something different with the casting, we talk about inclusion and diversity but if there was a different way of casting, it wouldn't change the film at all but how we feel about it. Mar 21, 2019 Full Review Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald There's a great sense of camaraderie in it all but it could have been so much better with a script that rejected the obvious. Rated: 2.5/5 Sep 14, 2018 Full Review Maxance Vincent InSession Film The result is a rather dull and monotonous affair that shouldn’t have been made. Rated: D Mar 6, 2024 Full Review Don Shanahan Every Movie Has a Lesson To some Book Club will be inane and superfluous. To those with appreciative tastes for the talent involved, they will find satisfying enjoyment in watching these women shine as they do best. Rated: 3/5 Feb 16, 2024 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Book Club made me want to give up reading altogether. Rated: 1.5/5 Aug 16, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
