Fosse, Fosse, Fosse!
The BSR May 2024 repertory movie roundup
There’s much to look forward to on the region’s repertory screens, much of it harkening back to the 1970s: A Bob Fosse retrospective, a special event geared towards another ‘70s film, and one of the most acclaimed documentaries of that decade.

Vanishing Point
Wednesday, May 29, 7pm

Richard C. Sarafian's Vanishing Point was a cinematic touchstone of the mid-1970s, starring Barry Newman and Cleavon Little. The plot concerns a race car driver taking a car from Denver to San Francisco, and it inspired everything from Nicolas Winding Refn’s Drive to Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof.
The screening at the Lightbox is also a book event for Robert M. Rubin’s new book Vanishing Point Forever (Film Desk Books); Rubin will introduce the film.
Grey Gardens
Tuesday, May 4, 7pm
Bryn Mawr Film Institute, 824 Lancaster Avenue, Bryn Mawr
Every July 4, the Bryn Mawr Film Institute posts a video to its social media of BMFI marketing director Gina Izzo re-enacting Little Edie’s “Flag Dance” from the 1975 documentary Grey Gardens.
This month, BMFI is showing the documentary, directed by Albert and David Maysles. It depicted the lives of two women, a mother and daughter, both Edith Beale and known as “Big Edie” and “Little Edie.” Relatives of Jackie Kennedy, the two lived together in a once-grand but decaying East Hampton mansion.
