Terrible,but good terrible
ant36au9 January 2018
Fun little movie with 2 of the main ingredients for a horror, death and nudity. The acting is horrible, but I think deliberately so,the effects are horrible, again I think deliberately so.Most of the girls are kinda cute and Monique Parent as Elizebeth ,is deliciously funny and evil and beautifully naked in all her glory. If you have a spare hour or so and don't want to think too much or do much else but sit and have a giggle then this is a movie for you,if you are looking for belly laughs, then it isn't.A solid 5.

Blood Scarab; or Dracula meets the Mummy
orion_ss111 December 2008
Well, actually Countess Dracula meets Hathor.

A sequel to Donald Glut's Mummy's Kiss and Mummy's Kiss; Second Dynasty, as well as his Countess Dracula's Orgy of Blood which was a sequel to his The Erotic Rites of Countess Dracula; I was just a little disappointed. He made his name doing T&A B-movies and I liked the first four. Sexy scenes and lots of humor, he did not take himself too seriously. In the commentary track he notes how everything was done in a matter of days and on a shoestring budget. For this one he had double the usual time and it may have thrown off his efforts.

I enjoy a plot line in my B movies but I don't expect or want an Oscar candidate. I enjoy his choice of stars ( okay, starlets ) but he took himself too seriously with this one.

There is a nice appearance by Scream Queen Brinke Stevens, and several new faces ( and other parts ). Expect bigger things from Natasha Diakova.

The story of ( the actual historical character ) Elizabeth Bathery ( who may not have been a lesbian ), played ably by Monique Parent, who is trying to live in daylight by joining forces with the Egyptian goddess Hathor ( attended by beautiful half nude handmaidens ).

I won't risk spoiling the rest. If you like B movies this is better than most, but not as good as the others by Mr. Glut. I DID enjoy it, but not with the same enthusiasm as I'd hoped.

Blood Scarab: Not entirely terrible
Platypuschow15 September 2016
Truth be told I expected a low budget T&A flick with very little substance however I was only right about the budget which really isn't an issue with the right crew. Blood Scarab cannot be taken seriously featuring a mummy right out of the Hammer Horror archive, a dreadfully cast Dracula, Countess Elizabeth Bathory and Renfield as the protagonist of the film! The story though silly made the poor performances, terrible humor and lackluster effects oddly watchable but it could only take the movie so far.

Overall Blood Scarab is above par among movies of it's ilk but that's not saying a vast amount. Watchable if only for the novelty value.

Blood Scarab
Scarecrow-8822 April 2011
Warning: Spoilers
It's Hollywood, California, and Brinke Stevens, as an archaeologist, is documenting artifacts for her Egyptian museum when a mummy (furnished by John Carl Buechler's Magical Media Industries) leaves her sarcophagus, on display in a gallery being renovated, as howls from jackals ring out in the distance—I must admit that I thought to myself, "He went for a little walk."

Vlad the Impaler, while peeping on some girls, is warned by his loyal slave, Renfield, of daylight's approach as the Count opines ever merging the Draculas and Bathories when he planted a "kiss" on Countess Elizabeth Bathory, allowing her the chance to be a member of the undead and his bride.

Director Donald Glut knows how sexy softcore porn icon Monique Parent is and often shoots her in long-flowing, see-through gowns, from angles which capture her stunning figure, and particularly naked as much as possible. Truthfully BLOOD SCARAB is smut masquerading as a horror film, although you could see how Glut does have an appreciation for the classics from years gone by. He homages the horror movies he loves in both dialogue and the characters which inhabit his little movie with the likes of Dracula, Mummy, Bathory, and Renfield all figuring into the plot in one way or another. But, BLOOD SCARAB seems to exist more as a movie to titillate than horrify.

While she doesn't even attempt to use an accent appropriate for the Bathory character, Parent does bathe her gorgeous naked body in the blood of virgins kept chained in some Hollywood set representing the dungeons where they imprisoned village girls, pleading for mercy and finding none. Bathory so desperately wants to walk about the day free from the restrictions sunlight causes and learns from Renfield that the mummy was in actuality an Egyptian "blood goddess" with powers in sorcery. This mummy, if provided blood from Bathory will, in turn, give her the needed power to walk during the day. She will also have to choose three "maidens", drink their blood, and plant on them "the mummy's kiss", as well as, worship the Egyptian goddess. Well, she bites three women, to be chosen handmaidens, including the plant of the mummy's kiss on each, but does not plan to complete her end of the bargain by worshipping the Egyptian goddess. Renfield, not exactly in Bathory's favor, knows that once she has gained the chance to walk in sunlight won't require his services any further and will appeal to the Egyptian goddess for help to stop Elizabeth from using her powers without adhering to the rules set out in the agreement.

This movie, cheap and corny as you'd expect from a film more concerned with showing bare breasts than horror, has barely any screen time for Dracula who appears at the very beginning, suffering an unfortunate fate at the hands of a hungry Renfield out looking for flies to catch instead of getting his Master to safety before the rising of the sun. The mummy's battle with Bathory, laughing with a devious relish at the new power given to her through a pact she never intended on keeping, is Glut's homage to the monster mashes of old Universal, although it isn't exactly overwhelming in its delivery. The movie will probably work best for Parent's followers who enjoy seeing her in stages of undress. She does bathe her breasts in the sunlight, much like the earlier blood bath which could arouse. As far as the movie goes, it just doesn't work as a horror film, though Parent bares her fangs and hisses before biting into the breasts of her victims (yeah, Bathory likes to bite breasts when drinking blood instead of the jugular, a preference I didn't exactly mind, to tell you the truth).Tony Clay is one of the least sexy Draculas I can think of from recent memory. Natasha Diakova is quite stunning as Mina, Bathory's first American victim, with a Hungarian accent to match. Diakova gets several chances to mimic Lugosi much to my delight and practically spends her entire screen time either naked or scantily clad. Cindy Pucci is definitely cast because of her willingness to pop her top, instead of her acting chops. While another in a long series of glorified cameos, Brinke Stevens is a welcome sight as the archaeological professor who tells Renfield the story of the Egyptian goddess.

Monique Parent Gives Don Glut Vampire Series an Upgrade to First Class
shadorealm15 September 2008
Well worth a look, if you go in with the right expectations, even if you haven't cared in the past for Don Glut's favored sub-genre - 'The Parade of Young Models with Big Boobs'.

  • Monique Parent looks and is perfect as a feline and slinky vampire. Whatever she wants to come back for the next episode in this series, Don Glut will be wise to give it to her. She clearly knows exactly what this job is about and delivers 110 percent. She could easily initiate a whole new sub-genre - 'Hot Vampire MILF'.

  • Also doing his job well is Del Howison, the proprietor of Dark Delicacies Bookstore, in the continuing misadventures of the much put upon 'Renfield', a mash-up of Dwight Frye with Willie Loomis from Dark Shadows. He's even given a nice story arc this time. But, in between keeping all the rooms in the castle dust free, Renfield's main job is to signal the audience this is a comedy, and not to expect something else. The comedy is an essential ingredient in this formula. If your lead character is a riff on an historical figure who was a sadistic mass murderer, playing it deadpan is a whole different category of movie.

  • The music, much of it by Lucan Wolf, also adds significantly to the enterprise and the feeling its a 'real' movie this time.

Its not all great.

-'Dracula' is pretty terrible. Even though he's only in the first 15 min he still sets up the wrong tone for the rest. Why didn't Glut just bring back Arthur Roberts from his last vampire opus and call him 'Dracula'? He was fine as Ruthven. They had it nearly right in the very first one with William Smith. At least he could convey a weary gravitas just standing in front of the camera. With Tony Clay, they may be trying to do a riff on 'Count Frankenhausen' from a couple of fondly remembered Mexican movies (The Bloody Vampire, etc) dubbed by K Gordon Murray. (They even replicate the glowing eye effect from the Mexican movies.) But to say they fall a wee bit short is putting it mildly.

  • Silicone implants in the Egypt of the Pharaohs. I guess this was another lost art of the ancients. But an inevitable part of any Don Glut production. To be fair, some of these short scenes look to be ported over from earlier movies.

Still, the pluses far outweigh the minuses, if you go into it with the right attitude. Remember, its a comedy. If you prefer the sickly aroma of the real Countess Bathory, try 'Hostel II'. Myself, after a hard day I'd prefer this for distraction.

A generally fun softcore-styled genre effort
kannibalcorpsegrinder21 October 2022
After arriving at a large mansion, a vampire tries to restore her legacy of terror with the help of a sacred instrument that will help her walk in the sunlight but her lackey's failure to accomplish the task eventually causes an artifact collector to discover the situation and races to stop it.

This was a pretty enjoyable sleazy vampire effort. What works nicely for this one is the ability to incorporate genuine attempts at genre atmosphere within the inclusion of the sleaze. The concept of the vampire count stalking victims, turning the girls into creatures like him, or the scenes in her dungeon bathing in blood-filled tubs with the anguished cries of victims wailing in the background all give this some intriguing horror elements. As well, the storyline about requiring the stolen Egyptian mummy to be needed for the protection ceremony or the motions of the sacrificial ceremony that will enable her to walk in the sunlight all gives the film enough of a horror atmosphere. There's also the film's cheesy atmosphere mixing this cheesy horror atmosphere with tons of nudity and some silly comedy. The frequency of the performers going topless, whether for lesbian trysts or the casual clothing attire that's worn for the situations, captures an erotic tone that's quite appealing. Given the lighthearted tone present here with the comedy being infused by tons of puns and quips about his inability to properly save her due to the eccentric behavior he has, these features work quite nicely here with the horror elements present to become a solid enough softcore-styled genre effort. That said, there are some minor flaws to be had with this one. Among the main issues here are the lazy or illogical plot-points that are conveniently placed throughout here simply to get the plot moving. Rather than report her roommate missing, she decides to stay quiet painting by herself, and only after it's been a whole day does she invite a friend over while still completely clueless about what happened. As well, the finale feels rushed and like they're trying to hit a specific length rather than anything else making curious use of several tactics to extend the film that isn't logical or normal. These are the few problems that hold this one back.

Rated Unrated/NC-17: Constant Full Nudity, Sex Scenes, Violence, and Language.

Not sure why all of the reviews were so low, I gave it a 10 and thought it was one of the best films like it in decades...
