Summary

  • Hailee Steinfeld joins Michael B. Jordan's new movie in an undisclosed role.
  • Steinfeld's new role breaks her streak of only appearing in franchise films, a first since 2016's "The Edge of Seventeen."
  • Aside from Steinfeld and Jordan, the upcoming film includes MCU connections like Ryan Coogler and Delroy Lindo.

Hailee Steinfeld continues to stay busy as she has been cast in an upcoming film featuring one of her fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe stars (whom she never shared the screen with). The actress currently stars as Kate Bishop in the MCU, a role introduced during Disney+'s miniseries Hawkeye in late 2021 and intended to take over Clint Barton's Hawkeye mantle following his retirement. Steinfeld briefly reprised her role as Kate during one of the post-credits scenes in The Marvels when Kamala Khan broke into her apartment to recruit Kate for a new team (most likely the Young Avengers).

Steinfeld's next MCU project is unclear, as the franchise has undergone many changes as of late and is shifting directions regarding the rest of its Phase Five and Phase Six plans. However, the actress' cameo at the very end of The Marvels suggests that fans haven't seen the last of Kate Bishop. But until then, Steinfeld is booking projects outside of Marvel, including the aforementioned one featuring a different MCU actor that is likely one of Steinfeld's most exciting live-action movies in a long time.

Steinfeld's Role Is Unknown

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hailee Steinfeld has been cast in Michael B. Jordan's upcoming film, which still doesn't have a released title. Consequently, little is known about the new supernatural thriller movie being produced by Warner Bros. Pictures (who won an intense bidding war for the project), including confirmation regarding plot details and Steinfeld's role. However, reports claim that the untitled film is set in the South during the Jim Crow era, involves vampires, and possibly features Jordan playing twin brothers. It's important to note, though, that this information has not been confirmed.

[Hailee] Steinfeld joining the cast of Michael B. Jordan's original movie thankfully breaks an eight-year streak of only being involved with franchise projects.

Thankfully, Warner Bros. has released some facts about the upcoming supernatural thriller, which could serve as Jordan's Creed franchise replacement following the actor's run as Adonis Creed. Aside from Jordan and Steinfeld, other cast members include Wunmi Mosaku (who might be portraying Jordan's character's love interest), Delroy Lindo, and Jack O'Connell (potentially as the racist villain). Additionally, Jordan's mystery movie's release date is set for March 7, 2025, although that is subject to change due to potential production delays and other factors.

Hailee Steinfeld In Michael B. Jordan's New Movie Is Her First Non-Franchise Movie Since 2016

Steinfeld's Last Non-Franchise Film Was The Edge Of Seventeen

Hailee Steinfeld's involvement with Michael B. Jordan's highly anticipated vampire movie is quite thrilling for multiple reasons. Even though Steinfeld and Jordan never shared the screen as their respective Marvel characters, it will be fun for many fans to see them act together after playing Kate Bishop and Erik Killmonger in the MCU. But the second reason is that Steinfeld has not starred in a non-franchise film since she portrayed Nadine Franklin in The Edge of Seventeen in 2016. Instead, most of Steinfeld's movies are a part of a larger universe.

Following the critically acclaimed The Edge of Seventeen, Steinfeld appeared in Pitch Perfect 3, Bumblebee, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The actress also served as a guest in Between Two Ferns: The Movie on Netflix and made a cameo in 2019's Charlie's Angels, but neither count as significant non-franchise roles. Plus, one could argue that Charlie's Angels is a franchise film. So, Steinfeld joining the cast of Michael B. Jordan's original movie thankfully breaks an eight-year streak of only being involved with franchise projects.

Ever since a box office let-down in 2018, Hailee Steinfeld's acting roles have followed a pattern that she needs to break with her next movie.

Hailee Steinfeld & Michael B. Jordan's New Movie Has A Lot Of Exciting MCU Connections

Steinfeld & Jordan Aren't The Only Ones Involved With The Film Who Have Worked On MCU Projects

Of course, the most obvious MCU connections that the Warner Bros. supernatural thriller film has are Michael B. Jordan and Hailee Steinfeld. However, they aren't the only ones working on the upcoming movie who were previously involved with MCU projects. Ryan Coogler, the director and co-writer of Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is set to direct, write, and produce the vampire film starring Jordan and Steinfeld. Delroy Lindo, one of the actors, was also previously cast for MCU's Blade, and Ludwig Goransson (the composer for Coogler's Black Panther movies) is producing and will presumably score it.

Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler's upcoming supernatural thriller movie will begin filming in spring 2024 in New Orleans.
