BEVERLY HILLS, CA — The search for a permanent Beverly Hills High School principal continued even after extensive interviews for three candidates.

Two interim principals, Drew Stewart and Kim Decatrel, took over for the 2022-2023 school year after former principal Mark Mead transitioned into a district role. At the time, district staff conducted a "rigorous search" but did not find the right person to replace Mead, Superintendent Michael Bregy said in the summer of 2022.

The district went back to the drawing board again after interviewing three candidates for a permanent principal role, Bregy said in a message to the district community on Feb. 17. Two panels of community members, alumni, parents, staff and board members interviewed seven candidates in mid-February, three of which moved forward to a second round of interviews, student-led tours, discussions with Bregy and a Cabinet group interview.

"Our debrief conversations with each group unanimously determined that we did not find the next principal of BHHS," Bregy said.

Bregy said school and district representatives have continued to narrow their scope through candidate interviews.

"I am glad we had an opportunity to go through this process with enough time to ensure we secure the best person for the position. I must also mention that this process was extraordinarily helpful in narrowing the scope of what our BHHS community prioritizes most in a leader," Bregy said. "My continuous commitment to you is to select a person who will build on the culture of trust, respect, and excellence at BHHS."
