Days of our Lives Veteran Suzanne Rogers Celebrates Her Birthday

Life is sorely complicated for Days of our Lives stalwart heroine Maggie Simmons Horton Kiriakis. For every celebration, there’s a crushing defeat. But luckily for, Suzanne Rogers, the actress who plays Maggie, life isn’t so complicated. And in fact, she has a major milestone to celebrate.

Happy Birthday, Suzanne Rogers

And that’s because she was born on July 9, 1943, in Midland, Maryland, which means that this talented actress is turning 79 years old today! Born Suzanne Cecelia Crumpler, Rogers left her hometown for New York City at the age of 17 in order to pursue her dream of becoming a dancer.

She achieved that goal by joining the famed Radio City Music Hall Dancers (AKA the Rockettes) and appearing in several Broadway musicals including, Coco, Hallelujah Boy, and Follies.

After 10 years of the hustle and bustle of New York living, Rogers headed out west to try her luck in Hollywood. She studied acting under the auspice of Stella Adler and soon after, Rogers was hired to play farm girl Maggie Simmons on Days of our Lives.

Rogers made her debut on the soap on August 20, 1973, and she remained a part of the cast until 1984. At that time, Rogers was diagnosed with myasthenia gravis, a rare neurological disorder, and she chose to exit DAYS when her symptoms began to worsen.

A year later, with her health much improved, Rogers returned to DAYS and successfully convinced the show’s producer, Betty Corday, to have Maggie diagnosed with the same ailment.

Among Rogers’s other credits is the TV movie Never Say Never: The Deidre Hall Story (in which she played herself) and episodes of Love, American Style, Quincy, M.E., Little House on the Prairie, and Knight Rider.
