Vote up the films available to stream on Netflix with a run time of 90 minutes or less.

If you’re like most people with a life you like watching movies but you don’t have time to dedicate two plus hours of your life to something that you know nothing about. Start thanking your lucky stars because, as it turns out, there are plenty of Netflix movies shorter than 90 minutes. The perfect length to fit a movie into while still fitting in the busy-ness of life. The films on Netflix that are less than 90 minutes cover all of your genre bases. Which means that the next time you’re either figuratively or literally Netflix and chilling, there will be a movie that both you and your bae are sure to enjoy.

The criteria that help determine the best short movies on Netflix are simple. Obviously the movies have to be less than 90 minutes long – a list about the best movies that are exactly 90 minutes will just have to wait, compadre – and they need to be good, so you’re not going to find any Z-grade schlock on here. These are just the finest films viewable in the span of two and three loads of laundry.

Of course, Netflix has great movies of every variety of length. But these hour and a half Netflix movies are the best for the film enthusiast on the run.

    Hush
    Photo: Netflix

Hush is one of the many genre experiements by director Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) that's available on Netflix. This thriller concerns a deaf author who's trapped in her rural home by a masked man who's trying to do away with her just because he feels like it. You know, a real feel good movie.

This film does everything it needs to do in 81 minutes, which is great because you won't want to spend another second watching this film by the time it's over. Hush is genuinely one of the most stressful, yet somehow cathartic movies you'll see on Netflix, just don't watch it alone.

    Creep

A movie running at just barely over an hour seems too short an amount of time to freak a person out as much as Creep manages to. The film's scant run time is the perfect amount of time for the film to escalate. Mark Duplass plays Josef, who hires Aaron (Patrick Brice) to film him for a day for his unborn child. Things go from from friendly to overbearing to downright terrifying. In its 76 minutes Creep ruminates on the world of freelance work, technology, and male friendship all without getting boring. Intriguing stuff that ought to be in your Netflix queue.

    Blue Jay

Blue Jay follows what happens when two high school sweethearts run into each other 20 years after they broke up. If the movie were any longer it would be the world's most boring Woody Allen movie. Luckily the brevity of Blue Jay makes it an easy watch. The film stars Mark Duplass and Sarah Paulson and is funny, romantic, sad, and beautiful. Bonus: Sarah Paulson in a role that wasn't written by Ryan Murphy, which is absolutely refreshing.

    Mindhorn

If you miss the surreal brilliance of The Mighty Boosh or you're a connoisseur of British comedy then you'll want to get to know Mindhorn. This film follows a detective on the Isle of Man who solves crimes with the help of psychic powers he's gained through his robotic eye.

The film's zippy run time allows The Boosh's Julian Barratt to bumble through a variety of capers and romantic entanglements in an adventure that's equal parts PeeWee's Big Adventure and 6 Million Dollar Man. Cook up some fish and chips and get ready to have a very short, very fun time.

    The Incredible Jessica James

Now this is one of the best date movies for when you just want to order some Thai food and hang out on the couch. The Incredible Jessica James is a romantic comedy that you can show to even the most ardent detractor of the genre. Clocking in at well under 90 minutes, you'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll wonder just how many frequent flyer miles Chris O'Dowd's character actually has.

If you were a fan of Jessica Williams on The Daily Show, you'll fall head over heels for her here. She's an exciting onscreen presence who manages to make every genre trope that's thrown her way seem like it's entirely new.

  • She's Gotta Have It
Photo: She's Gotta Have It / MGM

Spike Lee's debut film is a romantic comedy tour de force, and it clocks in at 84 minutes. The film follows Nora Darling as she tries to navigate three different relationships throughout Brooklyn in the mid '80s. If you feel like Spike Lee's filmography is too dense to parse, his first is a great film to start with.

Not only does She's Gotta Have it touch on topics like race and intergender relationships, but it has a joie de vivre that you might not expect form this very serious director. A plus: Spike Lee's glasses are definitely fashion goals in this movie even if you don't need glasses.
