Bernard Marmaduke Fitzalan-Howard, 16th Duke of Norfolk was born on 30 May 1908. He was the son of Henry Fitzalan-Howard, 15th Duke of Norfolk and Gwendoline Mary Herries, Lady Herries of Terregles. He married Hon. Lavinia Mary Strutt, daughter of Algernon Henry Strutt, 3rd Baron Belper and Hon. Eva Isabel Marion Bruce, on 27 January 1937. He died on 30 January 1975 at age 66.[1] He succeeded to the title of 13th Lord Herries of Terregles [S., 1490] on 28 August 1945.[2] He gained the title of 16th Duke of Norfolk in 1956. Bernard was Lord Lieutenant of Sussex from 1949 until 1974 [3]
