Review: "Benediction" serves as an anthem for doomed youth, delves into the life of World War One poet Siegfried Sassoon, exploring his emotional and sexual experiences amidst the backdrop of war and post-war societal challenges. Directed by Terence Davies, as his last work, the film presents a gloomy yet beautifully shot biopic, with Jack Lowden delivering a compelling performance as Sassoon. The narrative touches on Sassoon's relationships with fellow poets, his struggles with societal expectations and personal fulfillment, and the haunting memories of war that continue to plague him. While the film captures the essence of the 1920s and 30s with a talented cast and stunning visuals, its prevailing tone of despair and unfulfilled life can leave a somber impression, making it a poignant yet melancholic choice for a rainy day viewing experience.
The 4th pic of the nurse looks like she's wearing Madame Pomfrey's outfit... and then pic 17 made me fall out my chair. 😂
I stopped watching this movie after 30 minutes. It’s rare I don’t finish a movie.
Phenomenal movie. Terence Davies was a true gift to cinema. This was great but his previous works, especially A Quiet Passion starring Cynthia Nixon as Emily Dickinson is breathtaking.
